Location:

This position assigned is to Parnall Office located in Jackson, MI. Candidate must be within commutable distance from the location or willing to relocate (relocation package available for those who qualify).

We are looking for: Senior Data Engineer

The Senior Data Engineer works independently with little direction or oversight and will be responsible for partnering with various analytics team and business partners throughout the enterprise to collect data requirements and design and build data pipelines/architecture as per IT best practices defined. Creating a data warehouse, design-related extraction, loading data functions, testing designs, data modeling, and ensure the smooth running of applications. Building analytic tools, assembling, and cleaning BIG data, designing, and building ETL using various technology languages, creating data visualization, assembling large complex data and identifying and improving internal process to automate manual data wrangling, optimizing performance, and improve data quality.

This role will work within the Electric Supply Operations team to support the company in forecasting future electric generation needs and optimization of resource mix for the $900M capacity market. This includes making strategic recommendations for development of future renewable energy assets and their impact to the overall power generation asset portfolio of the company.

The knowledge and skills involved with this position include but are not limited to:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work with all levels of the organization
• Proficient in establishing and maintaining good working relationships (business and IT teams)
• Knowledge of project planning/full lifecycle delivery using Agile framework
• Understanding of data test methodologies and testing tools
• Ability to work effectively with contract employees and vendors
• Understanding of database management principles and methodologies, including data structures, data modeling, data warehousing, and transaction processing
• Knowledge of data design principles, methods, and approaches, applying systems engineering concepts such as: data structured design, supportability, survivability, reliability, scalability, and maintainability
• Knowledge of change and release tools and processes utilized to implement solutions across multiple teams and technologies

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or equivalent with four (4) or more years of experience in software engineering
• [OR] Associate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or equivalent with eight (8) or more years of experience in software engineering
• [OR] High School Diploma with twelve (12) or more years of experience in software engineering
• Two (2) or more years of experience as an intermediate Data Engineer
• Experience with Advanced Analytic tool build, data architecture/design, user requirements definition, build BIG data pipeline, understanding of ETL tool extraction, basic data testing aptitude, and understanding of analytic tool deployment processes and best practices

In this role, you will:
• Develop and maintain advance neural network and regression model, 10-year forecast models for short-term forecasts for energy market pricing, electric load, intermittent generation (i.e. wind, solar), and demand response
• Review day to day Model parameters to ensure accuracy of the data being generated by the software, troubleshooting and repair of any model bugs.
• Working in collaboration with the Operations team and Principal Engineer to troubleshoot and improve any trends in model gaps based on benchmarked data or feedback
• Understand the MISO Resource Adequacy Market and support updating the short-term and medium-term forecasts for load, reserve margin and generation requirements, including supporting development of a database for long-term storage and output files
• Ability to design, modify and query database utilizing code to support the information gathering as needs for the Customer and Compliance side of the business for accurate reporting
• Coordinate with Electric Supply Contracts, Sales Forecasting, Generation Planning and Demand Response teams to update the capacity position and exhibits as necessary for regulatory filings
• Complete data analysis on all capacity accredited units within the MISO system for data verification prior to accepting accreditation during the Planning Resource Auction
