Duties

Under the Mathematics and Statistics (Computer Science and Data Science) series, the incumbent serves as a Computer Scientist (Data Scientist, Data Architect, or Data Engineer Student Trainee). The employee will gain a breadth of experience in the computer science areas of Data Science, Data Architecture and/or Data Engineering to enhance their technical proficiency.

The DCSA Student Experience is looking for interns to join our team to perform the following duties:
• Perform routine, standardized assignments in the fields of computer science, including Data Science, Data Architecture and/or Data Engineering.
• Assist higher-level personnel who are performing projects in order to develop competence and experience, assignments will progress in difficulty as experience is gained.
• May be required to gather information associated with the development of artificial intelligence (AI) including the application of computers to solve problems and to understand the principles of human intelligence. Investigates potential for integration of natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to enhance machine learning (ML) enabled data processing capabilities.
• Applies concepts, principles, practices, and techniques associated with computer science, data science, data architecture, and/or data engineering to elementary assignments involving recurring work. This involves assisting with compiling technical and administrative artifacts.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Telework Eligibility: This position is telework eligible, but is not a full time telework position. The incumbent will be required to report to the office on a routine basis.
• Suitable for federal employment, determined by a background investigation.
• If selected, the incumbent must obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as indicated in job announcement.
• Must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program with a full-time course load at time of application and in the spring semester prior to the summer program, with an expected graduation date of October 2025 or later.
• Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
• Students accepted to the internship program must send an official transcript with spring 2025 semester/quarter grades to Student Programs prior to onboarding.
• Students who successfully complete the program may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent position effective after graduation if all requirements have been met. (See Below for other factors)
