DIRECTOR SINGLE BUSINESS OFFICE (SBO) / PATIENT ACCOUNT & SUPPORT SERVICES (PASS)
WORK SCHEDULE

• Work closely with the Senior Director and Administrator/VP DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION The Director of PASS is a key member of both Enterprise Revenue Cycle (ERC) and UW Physicians (UWP). ERC is accountable for most technical component Revenue Cycle functions across UW Medicine. UWP is accountable for the Professional Billing of UW Physicians, who are faculty within the UW School Medicine. This role has a direct reporting relationship to the Administrator, Enterprise Revenue Cycle/Assistant Vice President of Medical Affairs and a dotted line reporting relationship to the Executive Director of UW Physicians.
The primary purpose of this role is to deliver outstanding customer service to our patients to enhance their overall experience. The successful incumbent will focus on “Patients Are First” and improved patient satisfaction outcomes to ensure collection of UW Medicine balances established as patient responsibility, while also managing timely collection of institutional and corporate accounts. This will involve managing the creation and distribution of accurate, timely statements while leading staff to meet metrics.
Primary Job Responsibilities
• Successfully maintain close collaborative partnerships within a diverse leadership team and workforce
• Accountable for all Patient Self-Pay Accounts Receivable and Operations throughout UW Medicine
• Lead and oversee all functions and daily operations within the SBO
• Set strategic direction for the department
• Maintain appropriate coverage for all services
• Develop and manage budgets
• Ensure consistent communication and coordinate problem solving among revenue departments (Patient Access, Patient Financial Services, and RevenueIntegrity) well as with Compliance, IT, Finance, and Reimbursement staff in other departments whose duties complement specific areas of responsibility.
• Develop and mentor direct reports and team members to increase levels of performance and professional growth. Lead by example in all areas
• Recruit and retain talented and experienced staff. Complete associated performance appraisals and manage performance effectiveness
• Develop and maintain interdepartmental relationships and partner with multiple disciplines across all facilities to enhance/support revenue cycle operations
• Assure staff is educated on relevant regarding regulatory standards for all areas of responsibility. Monitors performance of all functions for compliancewith Federal and State requirements
• In partnership with the Compliance Office, respond to and investigate issues and compliance concerns reported by internal personnel
• Work with and be able to influence change among a multi-disciplinary group involved in patient experience management, including clinical and financialstaff at multiple facilities
• Establish, review, and revise SBO-related metrics Propose, oversee, and manage departmental budgets for all areas within scope of accountability. Note:budget accountability generally ranges from $5 - $25M in a Director Role
• There will be 6 direct reports and you will manage a team of approximately 80 people REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
• Nine (9) years of progressive healthcare revenue cycle experience including one (1) year senior leadership experience in a complex academic, research,healthcare or governmental setting, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
• Understands implications of accounts receivable, in regard to information flow from the medical record coding, claim submission, patient billing and theoverall relationship to cash flow
• Demonstrates working knowledge of all processes surrounding Revenue Cycle Operations in a healthcare environment, including both hospital and physician settings
• Possesses demonstrated proficiency with APC/APG reimbursement, CMS rules and regulations, coding, billing, and compliance
