As a Sr. Machine Learning Engineer at Marqeta, you will be integral to our team dedicated to build AI/ML solutions for optimizing the security and efficiency of the embedded finance ecosystem. Your expertise will contribute to developing, implementing, and maintaining machine learning based systems that address key challenges in the payment industry, such as fraud detection, transaction enrichment, dispute processing, anti-money laundering (AML), and sanction screening and more

The Impact You'll Have
• Model Development and Implementation
• As a ML engineer, you will build and maintain the ML infrastructure to allow machine learning scientists and data scientists to develop, train, evaluate, deploy, and operate ML models and systems
• Your will iterate model development life cycle to boost productivity and innovation pace
• You will use your software development expertise to tackle complex infrastructure and architecture challenges
• You will have the opportunity to lead other engineers to drive ML projects (e.g. fraudulent transactions, transaction enrichment, automate dispute resolutions, enhance AML, sanctions compliance) from technical design to launch
• You will also collaborate with other teams and internal customers to set expectations, gather input and communicate results and continuously make improvements and updates as necessary.
• Collaboration and Strategy:
• Collaborate with product teams and stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Participate in strategic discussions to enhance data-driven decision-making processes within the company.
• Provide insights and recommendations based on model outcomes and data analysis.
• Research and Innovation:
• Stay abreast of the latest developments in machine learning and payment technologies.
• Explore new data sources and modeling techniques to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of existing models.
• Initiate and lead projects that apply cutting-edge machine learning techniques to solve new and existing problems in the payment industry.
• Technical Documentation and Compliance:
• Ensure all machine learning processes comply with relevant regulatory and ethical standards.
• Document model development processes, decisions, and outcomes for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Assist in preparing reports and presentations for regulatory bodies as needed.
Who You Are
• Bachelor’s (5+ years of professional experience) or Master’s degree (3+ years of professional experience) in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or a related field.
• Proven experience in cloud platforms, machine learning infrastructure/platform, cloud computing, Infrastructure as Code, (AWS, Sagemaker, Databricks, Kubenetes, Terraform, etc.)
• Proficient in programming languages such as Python or R and familiar with ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.)
• Strong understanding of data structures, data modeling, software architecture, and large scale computing systems
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
• Experience with GenAI modeling technologies and use cases
• Experience with scalable production model development and deployment
Nice-To-Haves
• Experience with NLP techniques for cleansing and interpreting textual data.
• Knowledge of regulatory frameworks affecting the payment and finance industries (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS).
• Familiarity with DevOps/MLOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, Sagemaker, MLflow) to streamline model deployment.
