Cashier I- Business Operations Division
Salary- $42,395.00
GENERAL FUNCTION
The Cashier is the point of contact for taxpayers seeking to make payments on their accounts. They are primarily responsible for accepting tax payments. Daily contact involves communication with taxpayers and other agency staff via phone calls, electronic communications, and walk-up windows.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS
The functions performed by employees in this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:
• Handling cash and various payment transactions
• Maintaining cash register receipts and transaction paperwork for each taxpayer
• Issuing, verifying, and maintaining inventory
• Balancing currency and coin in cash drawers at the end of the shift
• Monitoring email box and answering banking line to assist taxpayers with payment information.
• Contacting taxpayers for failed ACH payments
• Assisting with the daily cash reconciliation
• Reviewing and filing daily reports from banking institutions and tax system
• Tests scenarios for system changes
• Other duties as assigned during idle times.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS
The job family has two levels, which are distinguished by the complexity of assignments, the level of expertise required to perform the duties assigned, and the responsibility for providing leadership to others.
Level I is the entry-level where employees are primarily responsible for reviewing accounts and assisting taxpayers with their payments. It also includes entry-level cashiers who generally perform such work in a training status to build their skills in completing various types of tasks.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Level I Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, public administration, or closely related field
• OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
PREFERENCE STATEMENT
Preference may be given to candidates who are proficient in Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Core work hours for the Oklahoma Tax Commission are Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:30pm. This schedule may require minor flexibility based on the needs of the agency.
