Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Big Data Architect to join our team. In this role, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and manage big data solutions that drive data-informed decision-making and align with business goals. You will lead the architecture and development of scalable, reliable, and efficient data systems, prioritizing data integrity, security, and accessibility.

As a Senior Architect, you will work with various teams to establish best practices in big data engineering and build robust systems for large-scale data processing. Additionally, you will play a vital role in advancing our cloud-based data platform’s architecture to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

Job Responsibilities
• Serve in an operational role with on-call responsibilities, supporting Big Data teams and engineers to troubleshoot and resolve production issues. Oversee high-availability production environments, implement support procedures, and proactively manage operational challenges.
• Respond to data infrastructure incidents, using expertise in software development, systems engineering, and data architecture to prevent recurring issues.
• Lead data platform improvement initiatives, aligning with best practices to boost system efficiency. Participate in architectural reviews and guide the team in designing big data solutions on cloud platforms such as Hadoop, HBase, Elasticsearch, and Kafka.
• Oversee capacity, utilization, and scalability by coordinating with cross-functional teams to manage service scaling.
• Enhance system observability and resiliency through advanced tooling and process optimization, ensuring data reliability.
• Implement Service Level Metrics (SLMs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) to measure and enhance service health.
• Develop and enforce design patterns for monitoring, benchmarking, and deploying new backend service features.
• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including network diagrams, runbooks, and procedures, to support system understanding and smooth operations.
• Work closely with partner teams to improve infrastructure reliability and performance through thoughtful system design improvements.

Job Requirements
• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related technical field is required.
• Expertise in designing, implementing, and overseeing big data architectures on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP is essential, with a preference for Azure knowledge.
• Experience with Big Data component operation and maintenance, including Hadoop, Yarn, HBase, Hive, and Spark, is required.
• Familiarity with cloud-native solutions for high availability and distributed systems is required, with the ability to monitor and analyze performance to resolve issues impacting reliability, performance, and scalability.
• A minimum of 5 years in a 24/7 enterprise production environment, supporting mission-critical, real-time, high-traffic applications in cloud environments, is necessary.
• A solid understanding of Linux systems is required.
• Strong experience with observability tools, such as Grafana, Prometheus, or Zabbix, is also required.
• Proficiency in scripting or programming languages like Python or GoLang is required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed teams.

Nice to Have
• Familiar with container technology, such as: Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos, etc.
• Experience with OSS technologies, like Elasticsearch, Kafka, and Redis.
• Full-stack debugging and performance optimization ability, including knowledge of Cloud systems (load balancing, caching, content distribution, etc.), continuous integration/build systems, Java, SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Systematic problem-solving approach, combined with a sense of ownership and drive.

Pay

$130,600.00 min - $226,600.00 max annually. Bonus & RSU offered.
