Job Description

The Home Loan Risk Operations Consultant is responsible for assisting in risk governance over the highest key operational home loan risks and their corresponding controls and actions. This role is responsible for review activities that cover a wide variety of operational risk topics, including evaluating risks to the business, determining whether the design and performance of controls are appropriate and functioning as intended, identifying and reporting gaps (existing or new), recommending practical solutions to mitigate risk, and performing validation activities to ensure identified issues are fully resolved. Using a blend of audit, risk analytics, compliance, business acumen, operational risk, and process improvement skills, provide value-added consulting, and credible challenge to the lines of business on the effectiveness of key risk process controls while maintaining an extraordinary reputation with our partners to both reduce risk and enhance the customer experience. Responsible for SOX and Non-SOX continuous control improvement to align with risk assessments based on existing and new changes to procedures, change management, KPIs/KRIs, quality action plans, product and credit, and technology. Serves as the risk management subject matter expert on effective process and control design. Acts as a change agent for the promotion of a risk management culture.

How You'll Spend Your Time
• You will maintain and document the operational risk management program, facilitate risk and control identification with senior leaders, and assess and improve controls to manage risks effectively.
• You will assess and improve Home Loan Lending processes through comprehensive reviews, consulting, and data governance, using a mix of audit, risk, management, and process improvement skills.
• You will help develop and maintain Home Loan policies, identify policy needs, and ensure they are current and well-documented.
• You will support the Mortgage Credit Policy Manager by monitoring investor changes, creating internal mortgage announcements, and updating underwriting guidelines.

Education & Experience Requirements

This level of knowledge is normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance and 5+ years equivalent Home Loan Risk work experience; or 10+ equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Outstanding writing capabilities in a risk management capacity when reporting results of process reviews.
• Ability to influence and negotiate with senior management and staff.
• Strong business acumen and an excellent understanding of both operational and compliance risks and controls within business processes.
• A clear, demonstrated ability to solve problems and implement solutions independently in a fast-paced environment.
• A proven track record of extraordinary performance in diverse risk management roles.
• Established credibility with their partners through a balance of deep technical expertise, exceptional critical thinking, and strong relationship management.
• Strategic thinker, with big-picture orientation, business acumen, and an excellent understanding of both operational and compliance risks and controls within business processes.
• Working knowledge of mortgage data systems and database management
• Basic project management experience
• Basic process engineering knowledge
• Extensive knowledge of the COSO internal control framework
• Subject matter expertise of credit policy including the ability to interpret policy documents.
