Job Title: Data Scientist (LLM)

Location: New York City, NY (Hybrid - 2 to 3 days a week in-office)

Job Summary: A company in the insurance industry is seeking an experienced Data Scientist with expertise in Large Language Models (LLM) and Generative AI to join its Data Science Lab (DSL). The role involves developing AI/ML solutions that drive enterprise-wide innovation across various business lines and products. The Data Scientist will collaborate closely with senior leadership and Data Science Tech Leads to deliver high-impact projects that are market-tested and deployed throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop LLM/Generative AI Capabilities: Design and optimize high-quality prompts and templates to guide LLM behavior, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and language fluency.
• Unstructured Data Mining: Analyze unstructured data such as insurance contracts, medical records, sales notes, and customer logs to extract valuable insights.
• AI/ML Solutions Implementation: Create AI/ML solutions that enhance underwriting risk assessment, claims adjudication, and customer servicing.
• Run Large-Scale Experiments: Lead experiments focused on unsupervised pre-training, fine-tuning, retrieval augmentation, and prompt engineering.
• Model Evaluation: Assess LLM models based on statistical tests, business metrics, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Support Data Science Lab (DSL): Contribute to building out the DSL’s capabilities, including developing use cases, project design, and data exploration.
• Data Wrangling and ETL: Perform data wrangling and ETL processes to prepare modeling datasets from a variety of sources.
• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with Data Engineering, Business teams, and other Data Scientists to standardize tools, processes, and best practices.

Requirements:
• Education: PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Experience: Proven experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and implementing deep learning models.
• Skills: Expertise in LLM, NLP, prompt engineering, and deep learning. Proficient in Python (PyTorch, TensorFlow) with hands-on experience in GPU and distributed computing.
• Other: Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with a track record of leading and mentoring data scientists.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience in the insurance and financial services sectors.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and a variety of ML models.
• Experience in data wrangling, ETL, and data quality assessment.
