Job Description General Summary: The Medicinal Chemistry Scale-Up Research Scientist will work as part of the medicinal chemistry scale-up group with a high degree of independence to synthesize compounds on a range of scales from multigram to hundreds of grams for biological evaluation. Performs experimental troubleshooting and methods development and executes complex experimental procedures. Completes work in a resourceful, self-sufficient manner and can design alternative approaches to achieve desired targets. Keeps up to date with current scientific literature relevant to his/her scientific methodology or field(s) of technical expertise. This is a full-time on-site role. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Design and undertake experimental synthetic work as part of the scale-up group to deliver material for internal customers working on 10s grams to 100s grams scale. Personally deliver material and independently develop and optimize processes. Work within the Scale-up group to enable rapid delivery of material, problem solve and share knowledge. Collates and interprets complex data systematically and synthesizes results into a cohesive body of conclusions or recommendations to guide Project decisions and new research activities. Exercises solid judgment to prioritize studies, considering feasibility and Project impact. Performs advanced and/or complex experimental troubleshooting. Scours relevant scientific literature and routinely incorporates new insights into research activities. Identifies, prioritizes and introduces relevant emerging technologies in his/her field of expertise to advance the existing technology platforms and create/maintain a competitive advantage. Explores the feasibility of applying new scientific principles/concepts or implements and validates novel experimental approaches and technologies to achieve project goals. Contributes significantly to patent and/or publication preparation. Independently prepares study presentations and presents experimental conclusions. Knowledge and Skills: Experience of working in a large-scale, synthetic laboratory to deliver complex organic compounds. Display a flexible approach and be comfortable working on a variety of scales. Experience of using large-scale glassware 5L to 20L. Strong interpersonal skills and a team player. Some experience and understanding of process safety and hazard assessment. A diligent approach to all safety matters. Very strong synthetic organic chemistry knowledge and mechanistic understanding. Education and Experience: BS and 6+ years of experience, MS and 3 years of experience, or PhD or post-doc with 0 - 3 years of experience in a relevant area of research, or the equivalent industrial experience.
