Job Description
Responsibilities:
– Provide piano and/or organ music for Sunday morning worship services
– Direct a volunteer choir in special music for worship (Labor Day thru May)
– Lead choir rehearsals and foster their musical growth
– Organize and direct ensembles for special music during the summer (trios, duets, etc)
– Provide music for special services (Ash Wednesday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Thanksgiving Eve, Blue Christmas, Christmas Eve)
– Select appropriate music for worship based on the liturgy and choir’s skills with Pastor’s guidance
– Motivate and inspire choir by conveying that God has given each of them a gift
– Communicate music selections to secretary for inclusion in the bulletin/powerpoint
– Coordinate maintenance of the piano and organ
– Maintain music library
– Recruit new singers
– Manage music budget
– Arrange for substitute when necessary
– Respond timely to requests from Trustees or Finance Committee (ie music budget or repairs to organ/piano
– Music director will have the first opportunity to play for weddings and funerals. If unable to do so, the music director will need to provide approval of the chosen music provider
Employee Hours: Hours to include Sunday services, choir practice one night weekly, and any other hours needed to accomplish tasks.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
– Bachelor’s degree in Music is desirable including knowledge of piano/organ and directing choirs
– Excellent communication and organization skills
– Ability to be a positive voice for St. Paul
– Familiar with and be able to play hymns
