DIRECTOR OF LITURGICAL MUSIC
Part Time, 20 hours per week
The Director of Liturgical Music plans and coordinates the music for all liturgical services and accompanies liturgies on piano and/or organ to celebrate and strengthen the faith journey of the IHM Sisters and all who worship at IHMSLC.
Responsibilities:
• To collaborate with the Director of Liturgy in planning and coordinating all liturgical services so as to celebrate and strengthen the faith journey of the IHM Sisters and IHM SLC.
• To coordinate with presiders, other liturgical ministers and additional musicians as may be required to carry out the music as planned for each liturgy.
• To provide music for liturgical services including for one weekday and one Sunday Eucharist, two Liturgies of the Word, IHM Community feasts, Jubilee liturgy, funerals, reconciliation and related services.
• To accompany liturgies on piano, organ or other instruments as determined.
• To recruit, schedule and rehearse with choir and other music ministers.
• To assure scheduling and compensation for additional musicians when engaged.
• To oversee creation and printing of worship aids.
• To maintain appropriate copyrights for music usage and maintain needed records and renewals.
• To implement the ‘IHM Inclusive Language Policy’ and ‘Envisioning Liturgy in the IHM Community’ documents.
Qualifications:
• Degree in music and/or liturgy is preferred or bachelor’s degree in appropriate field.
• Training and current education in liturgical music and knowledge of contemporary resources.
• Working knowledge of the liturgical documents of Vatican II, The Rites of the Roman Catholic Church and an understanding of Roman Catholic ritual.
• Demonstrated experience leading and directing liturgical music of a faith community, preferably- but not required- of a vowed religious community.
• Proficiency in keyboard accompaniment (piano and organ) and choral direction.
• Vocal performance is desired but not required.
• Interpersonal skills, including facilitation, coordination, conflict resolution, verbal and written communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with the liturgical committee, liturgy director and other liturgical ministers.
• Ability to relate to various age groups, especially the elderly.
