Who We Are
The name ThousandEyes was born from two big ideas: the power to see things not ordinarily possible and the ability to collect insights from a multitude of vantage points. As the world continues its digital transformation and relies more on cloud services and the Internet, the "network," which is now both public and private, has become a black box our customers cannot see or understand.
Our Internet and cloud intelligence platform delivers the only collectively powered real-time view of the Internet and private networks, cloud, and SaaS platforms, helping enterprises and service providers identify problems before they impact revenue, damage brand reputation, or halt employee productivity.
In August 2020, Cisco Systems completed the acquisition of ThousandEyes, which now forms the ThousandEyes Business Unit within the Cisco Networking Business Group and is the Network Assurance solution for Cisco across the Cisco Networking Cloud and Cisco Security Cloud. ThousandEyes is also a foundational component of Cisco's growing Full-Stack Observability ("FSO") business.
About the Role
The Web Platform team is passionate about building common abstractions that are shared by the various ThousandEyes development teams. Our mission is to evangelize standards, patterns, and best practices for software design and development at ThousandEyes. This is a frontend-leaning software development engineering role focused on platform-wide development, where you'll work on the underpinnings of our web application to ensure that it runs smoothly for our end users and is intuitive to build for other ThousandEyes developers. We value engineers who have an excitement for learning new skills, an eagerness to venture into unknown problem spaces, and a keen ability to identify and correct problems as they encounter them. Web Platform developers maintain flexible skill sets and growth mindsets, as we're often tagged to assist with a variety of topics within the wide-spanning layer supporting all web application architecture at ThousandEyes.
Lately, we've worked on impactful projects such as:
• Upgrading the version of our core frontend framework (Vue.js) across all services
• Modernizing and setting new standards for page rendering strategy
• Splitting the ThousandEyes core monolith into independently deployable microfrontends
• Migrating and upgrading core JavaScript utilities, mitigating potential security vulnerabilities
• Improving application-wide UI elements such as our menus, support chat, and customer satisfaction surveys
What You'll Do
• Improving the core frontend technology that enables the ThousandEyes engineering organization to scale and keeps developers happy, including build processes and test frameworks
• Evangelizing modern frontend architecture and development best practices, raising the bar for frontend development at ThousandEyes through implementation, presentations, and documentation
• Boosting our application's web performance, tracking core web vitals
• Exploring new technologies that will benefit our workflow and sharing comprehensive opinions on architectural/technical decisions
• Providing support to other engineers on the team and throughout the engineering organization as they build upon our team's work to achieve their goals
Qualifications
• Experience with modern frontend frameworks/libraries and knowledge of the differences between them (e.g. Vue, React, Angular, etc)
• Experience with Java, Golang or similar programming languages.
• Comfortable digging deep to solve problems, prototyping solutions, and exploring new technologies and architectural patterns.
• Ability to advocate for frontend development best practices and improve the frontend stack across an engineering organization
• Proven track record of identifying problems, proposing and selecting solutions, and executing them effectively
• Comfortable collaborating, communicating, and driving change across multiple Engineering teams
• Passion for sharing ideas, bringing others along, caring for teammates, and attracting other great developers to join our growing organization
Cisco values the perspectives and skills that emerge from employees with diverse backgrounds. That's why Cisco is expanding the boundaries of discovering top talent by not only focusing on candidates with educational degrees and experience but also placing more emphasis on unlocking potential. We believe that everyone has something to offer and that diverse teams are better equipped to solve problems, innovate, and create a positive impact.
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification. Research shows that people from underrepresented groups are more prone to experiencing imposter syndrome and doubting the strength of their candidacy. We urge you not to prematurely exclude yourself and to apply if you're interested in this work.
