Job Summary
As part of the Environmental & Social Risk Measurement & Analytics team within Group Risk Management, you will play a role in the identification, measurement, monitoring, and mitigation of environmental and social (E&S) risks at RBC. You will support and lead the design and implementation of key climate and E&S risk initiatives by building analytical capabilities supported by research, data analytics and insights.
A significant focus of this role will be the calculation of RBC’s financed emissions across different asset classes within carbon-intensive sectors and setting and tracking progress on net-zero targets.

What is the Opportunity?
As part of the Environmental & Social Risk Measurement & Analytics team within Group Risk Management, you will play a role in the identification, measurement, monitoring, and mitigation of environmental and social (E&S) risks at RBC. You will support and lead the design and implementation of key climate and E&S risk initiatives by building analytical capabilities supported by research, data analytics and insights.
A significant focus of this role will be the calculation of RBC’s financed emissions across different asset classes within carbon-intensive sectors and setting and tracking progress on net-zero targets.
What will you do?
• Work with the Director, E&S Model Development to assist in the advancement of RBC’s capabilities in measuring financed emissions, setting net-zero targets, and delivering carbon accounting insights across the enterprise.
• Build analytical tools to enable timely and accurate measurement and monitoring capabilities.
• Prepare model documentation and support model governance processes.
• Prepare insightful reports and presentations to enable effective communication with stakeholders
• Collaborate with diverse internal stakeholders across business lines and functions to share E&S Risk data and insights, and support risk management, business strategy, and ESG and climate disclosures.
• Establish an environmental & social risk data hub by leveraging internal and external data to support climate risk measurement and monitoring capabilities.
• Support the ongoing enhancement of controls & governance related to the execution of climate risk analytics processes and maintain up to date documentation.
Must have
• An interest in Environmental and Social Risk in general and climate change in particular
• Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science,, Econometrics, Finance, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Economics.
• Experience in working in an analytics team, especially those tasked with solving difficult and/or vaguely-defined problems
• Prior experience in applying statistical methods, algorithms, and machine learning models to analyze data and uncover trends, patterns, and insights.
• Strong coding abilities - An advanced understanding of programming and querying languages, including SQL and python OR a proven ability to both code in another data analytics language (e.g. C/C++, Scala, R, MATLAB, SAS)
• Ability to synthesize data into business insights and communicate these clearly to diverse audiences
• Desire and proven ability to build new and innovative approaches to complex problems with minimal direction
• Commitment to quality and accuracy with a high level of attention to detail.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Nice to have
• Knowledge of climate change science with experience in the development and use of climate and economic scenarios, models, projections and data.
• Knowledge or familiarity with the climate risk and/or target setting guidance issued by PCAF, NZBA, TCFD, ISSB, and/or OSFI (B-15)
• Knowledge or familiarity with internal RBC data systems
• Experience with or knowledge of carbon-intensive sectors, e.g. agriculture; aluminum; cement; coal; commercial and residential real estate; iron and steel; oil and gas; power generation; and transportation
• Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
