Title: Assistant Coach
Minimum Qualifications:
• Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills along with previous coaching responsibilities or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
• High energy level with outstanding interpersonal skills; reliable, self-starter who can work independently or as part of a team; ability to adapt, be flexible and tolerate stress.
• Prefer certified teacher with successful interscholastic coaching experience.
Report To: Head Coach
Job Goal: Successfully assist Head Coach develop student-athletes in an athletic program committed to academic and athletic excellence. Lead the delivery of a positive educational based athletic experience.
Performance Responsibilities:
Hold appropriate knowledge of the school’s mission, philosophy, and objectives. Know, understand, support, and adhere to the rules, regulations and philosophies as set forth by governing agencies of the sport, as well as Benilde St. Margaret’s School, MSHSL and NFHS.
Assist in creating an environment that produces maximum effort by participants. Show self-control, poise and emotional stability in all areas related to coaching responsibilities including cooperation in the sharing and the use of facilities. Possess an appropriate sense of humor.
Provide an example of professional, fair, honest, and ethical behavior in relationships with players, staff, officials, parents, and opponents. Actively promotes student safety, dignity, and respect. Offers constructive criticism to players when necessary and helps to improve the area being criticized.
Express enthusiasm about athletics while working with students, parents, and School personnel. Communicate effectively with head coach, staff, athletic leadership team, parents, and players.
Be dedicated to all phases of coaching with proper attention to players' mental and physical well-being.
Attend and meet team promptly for meetings, practice, and games.
Keep informed of modern trends, techniques, and strategies; and apply new trends where applicable. Participate annually in professional clinics, workshops, or conferences, as well as reading current literature available in her/his area of endeavor. Understand the proper care and prevention of injuries.
Work cooperatively with the coaches and events manager in implementing an adequate system for handling equipment and uniforms; demonstrate proper care of facilities. Accept responsibility for supervision of the locker room and weight room as required.
Participate as a positive team member in the development and support of excellence within the Athletic Department. Perform other duties assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
