Digital Services Senior Data Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Sr Data Engineer who will be responsible for the development and maintenance of both batch and real-time data ingestion platforms, ensuring the provision of reliable datasets that empower stakeholders to make informed and timely decisions supporting customer activities. The role also encompasses fostering a culture of excellence within a high-performing data engineering team, with the support of third-party development partners.

In this role, you will also be tasked with enhancing the architecture of our Microsoft Azure-based data warehouse, designed specifically for reporting and business intelligence. This includes integrating with externally hosted COTs products and leveraging existing Operational Data Store (ODS) structures, such as Netsmart’s myEvolv, to facilitate seamless data management and accessibility. You will lead the design, development, and maintenance of our business intelligence solutions, utilizing Microsoft's suite of tools and technologies. This position demands a collaborative approach, working closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, design data models, and implement scalable BI solutions that support and propel our business objectives forward.

Essential Functions
• Utilize expertise in ETL processes to extract data from various sources, enhancing business intelligence. Design end-to-end integration processes with high scalability and performance.
• Craft and maintain robust data structures and system integrations for optimal data flow.
• Develop database architectures, enforce coding standards, and plan for data warehouse scalability. Create scalable data models using SSAS for interactive analysis and reporting.
• Perform minor database administration tasks to ensure high availability of SQL databases.
• Identify automation opportunities to increase business productivity.
• Collaborate with business analysts and data scientists to deliver solutions that meet business needs.
• Design and implement comprehensive BI systems with Microsoft's BI toolkit.
• Engage with departments to drive project success and act as a BI subject matter expert.
• Deliver training on BI tools and methodologies, fostering continuous learning.
• Provide mentorship to junior team members on BI development standards and best practices.
• Analyze data to develop automated queries that predict user behavior and improve data quality.
• Collaborate with technical staff and stakeholders to communicate data effectively.
• Engage with departments to drive project success and act as a BI subject matter expert.

Qualifications

Required: Bachelor’s degree in technology-based discipline
• 7-10 years of experience in BI solution design and development, specifically using the Microsoft BI stack.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL, SSAS/AAS tabular modeling, DAX, Power BI, Paginated Reports, Power BI Gateway, Service, and Security.
• Familiarity with Azure BI services, including Azure SQL, Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Blob Storage, and Data Lakes.
• Practical experience with ETL processes and data integration
• A solid understanding of relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
• Hands-on experience in data architecting, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
• Experience with Azure Platform development and SQL Server data warehousing design and development.
• Knowledge of Google Big Query and PostgreSQL.
• Understanding of OLTP Recordkeeping, ODS, MDM, Warehousing, and Data Lakes.
• Experience in developing interactive reports and dashboards using Power BI.
• Proficiency in data processing flowcharting techniques.
• A strong grasp of the organization’s goals and objectives.
• Awareness of applicable HIPPA data privacy practices and laws.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
• Experience working in an Agile environment.

Preferred:
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Microsoft Certified: Power BI, etc.)
• Experience working with PowerShell.
• Experience using Git for version control and deployment.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric.
• Experience coding in Python.
• A solid grasp of SSAS-based data modeling principles.
• Proficiency in crafting interactive reports and dashboards with Power BI.
• Experience with Health Insurance or Health Care related data
• Preference for experience with Netsmart’s suite of products including myEvolv

Compensation range:

$140,000 - $160,000
