Hofstra University

At Hofstra University, intellectual curiosity is not just aspirational – it is central to how we engage on a daily basis. Hofstra faculty work within a diverse scholarly community committed to student success, intellectual discovery, free inquiry, inclusivity, and collaboration.

Enrolling more than 10,000 students, Hofstra offers students an array of undergraduate and graduate academic programs spanning the arts, humanities, sciences, business, engineering, law, health care, communications, and more.

Our accomplished faculty collaborate with students to explore interdisciplinary questions and produce innovative research that lays the foundation for future personal and professional success. With a beautiful campus in Hempstead, NY, Hofstra's location seamlessly merges the tranquility of coastal suburban living with the boundless opportunities of nearby New York City.

Hofstra University seeks candidates who will contribute to a supportive climate for students, faculty, and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We especially encourage women, people of color, members of the LGBTQ+ community, veterans, and people with disabilities to apply.

The Chemistry Department at Hofstra University (www.hofstra.edu/chemistry) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant or associate professor position in Computational Chemistry beginning September 1, 2025. Any area spanning computational chemistry will be considered. Successful candidates will be able to teach general chemistry (lecture and lab) and will have the opportunity to teach other courses in their area of expertise. A typical teaching load alternates between 2 and 3 courses per semester. The Chemistry Department serves only undergraduate students, with small class sizes (10-20) for junior and senior majors. The Chemistry Department offers undergraduate degrees in Biochemistry and Chemistry (with ACS accreditation), and Forensic Science.

This hire is part of a cluster in Big Data and Computational Research in the Natural Sciences. The cluster is designed to support the University’s goals with respect to diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and the Chemistry Department encourages candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education to apply.

In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to establish a vibrant research program centered on undergraduates and seek external grant funding. Intra- and extramural research collaborations are strongly encouraged. A high-performance computing (HPC) cluster is being built through a collaborative endeavor to support computation- and data-intensive applications as part of an awarded National Science Foundation Major Research Instrumentation grant. The HPC cluster will provide an environment that enables faculty and students to engage in computer-related teaching, learning, and research activities. The candidate will be granted access to this computational resource.

The candidate will also provide service to the department, college, and university. Experience advising and mentoring individuals from groups underrepresented in STEM fields is highly desirable. Hofstra University is committed to increasing the diversity of its faculty and the Chemistry Department encourages candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education to apply.
