As a result of growth, we are seeking a highly motivated SEO Director to join our team. The right candidate must be able work proficiently in a remote environment but love getting together in person with clients, the team, and at our company sponsored events.
As Director of SEO you will play a vital role in growth initiatives, client retention, and team management within the SEO department. As one of the most senior team members in SEO, you will lead a team of 15-20 highly skilled and passionate SEO professionals, including 3-5 Associate Directors, SEO Managers, and individual contributors. Your role will provide leadership, mentorship, and strategic guidance to SEO professionals managing campaigns for some of the world’s leading brands.
Your regular responsibilities are multifaceted, encompassing client management, people management, resource management, and contributing significantly to client retention, organic growth, and new business development. In client management, you will lead strategy and communication for enterprise clients, execute comprehensive SEO strategies, and manage complex SEO tools for campaign creation, optimization, and reporting. Your people management role involves guiding and training direct reports, enhancing their SEO knowledge and skills, and fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture.
For resource management, you will oversee tool budgets, lead the development of new deliverables and processes, and manage case studies and award entries. Additionally, your thought leadership in the field will involve actively seeking speaking engagements, contributing to the company blog, and maintaining a strong presence in social media communities.
Regular responsibilities but not limited to:
• Lead strategy, deliverables, and communication on 1-2 enterprise clients (depending on the scope and number of direct reports) resulting in strong client satisfaction, growth, and retention. Autonomously spearhead client conversations to discern business objectives and ad hoc requests, translating them into holistic SEO roadmaps aligned with industry best practices. This includes the ability to quickly adjust to shifting client priorities and gaining their buy-in.
• Expert experience in all SEO tools (Ahrefs, SEMrush, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog) and ability to leverage the advanced capabilities of each platform, such as API configurations and custom extractions. Be able to train junior members to utilize these tools in more advanced ways and identify and evaluate new tools and platforms; working with the leadership team to integrate them into workflows.
• Manage and execute the implementation of SEO strategy for all department deliverables (on-page, off-page, and technical SEO). This includes overseeing and providing feedback for the work product for others on your team, ensuring compliance with all processes, assisting with the development of new deliverables, and creating SOP documentation and videos to assist with team training.
• Provide expert analysis of SEO performance metrics in GA4, GSC, and Looker, such as organic traffic, rankings, conversions, and user engagement; generate comprehensive and insightful monthly reports and renewal decks for clients.
• Provide thought leadership across (1) the team; creating time and safe space for knowledge sharing, Q&A, brainstorming, discussion of client case studies/issues, and team summits, as well as (2) the agency including blog posts, webinars, white papers, etc.
• Collaborate with development teams on SEO initiatives like site migrations, redesigns, and all tasks requiring dev assistance.
• Execute SEO Strategies across three pillars of SEO, including on-page optimizations, technical SEO, off-page optimization, and occasional content recommendations.
• Constantly bring new insights resulting from analysis of SEO trends leading to applications for relevant campaigns
• Hold weekly or bi-weekly meetings with direct reports addressing client accounts, personal development and growth, strategic support, career advice.
• Manage 3-5 direct reports at the Associate Director level. Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to direct reports to enhance their SEO knowledge and skills and partner with them to develop SEO strategies that align with client objectives.
• Participate in team brainstorming meetings to share innovation ideas, including monthly contributions to the company blog, actively participating in speaking engagements and study/white paper creation, regular contributions to external blogs/podcasts, and demonstrate a strong leadership presence on at least one social media community.
