The Senior Tester will join our News Backend team, who are focussed on backend services to some variants of the BBC News apps. As a Senior Tester, you will be responsible for designing, communicating and implementing test approaches in product development and work closely with all members of the product development team ensuring the spread of good practice and knowledge.

Main responsibilities
As a Senior Tester within the News Backend team, you will have a role in shaping, refining and delivering the strategic and operational testing strategy for a defined product set.
You will be engaged in all aspects of SDLC, including architecture, design, specs, tests, development, and delivery. As a QA advocate, you will be reviewing new features that come in, assessing them, writing test plans and working with developers to understand their impact on performance. You will also contribute to the test, writing and maintaining the test suite that supports this effort.
Here are the key roles and responsibilities:
• Coordination and communication of testing activity across squads, working alongside cross-discipline team members.
• Pair with Software Engineers on planning, defining, and running tests for API releases.
• Continual review and improvement of test processes to ensure they are working effectively.
• Investigate automation opportunities, test frameworks and tools for APIs.
• Shape our automation frameworks and pipelines.
• Working within the squad to perform testing across a range of supported devices.
• Test software locally using command-line interface tools.
• Use a variety of techniques for testing high volume, complex applications delivered to a large audience.
• Contribute to the Agile team ethos, attending daily stand-ups, team retros, refinement sessions, backlog grooming and design sprints.
• Mentor squad members and share knowledge.
• Ability to understand business requirements, provide early testing input and discuss test scenarios.
• Collaboration with Developers for feature demos, including discussion and review of pull requests.
• Identify the root cause of defects using debugging tools, provide feedback to business stakeholders and take ownership through to resolution.
• Plan, coordinate and deploy releases using source control systems such as Git and GitHub and Continuous delivery systems for building and deploying applications, such as Jenkins and AWS
