BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Band Director, provide instruction to students in assigned music classes; conduct warm-up sessions and rehearsals; transpose and arrange music.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
A Music Assistant provides classroom assistance to the music instructor as well as instructional direction to music students in an instrumental music program at a secondary school in the District. Standard employment is on a part-time basis on days that school is in session. Some evening and weekend performances may be required. An Accompanist is required to be a musician with excellent piano training, experience and capability. His/her assignments are located at secondary schools within the District. The Instructional Assistant Music Assistant supports the instruction and reinforcement of musical concepts and instrumentation to individuals and groups of students and clerical duties.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Provide instruction to students in assigned instrumental music classes; reinforce instruction individually, in sections or in large groups; coordinate section coaches.
Conduct warm-up sessions to prepare students for rehearsal; conduct full rehearsals and assist students with ear training, rhythm recognition and explain musical concepts and ideas as needed; provide instruction on multiple wind, string and percussion instruments.
Transpose and arrange music; duplicate and distribute music to students.
Prepare and maintain records related to students including progress, grades, test scores, attendance and related documentation; process permits and prepare necessary paperwork for performances, competitions and related events.
Make minor repairs or adjustments to instruments; arrange for repairs as needed.
Determine appropriate chair placement of students based on ability; receive and respond to students challenging chair assignments.
Plan, organize and attend concerts, full rehearsals and festivals.
Operate a computer and other office equipment as assigned; play various musical instruments; drive a vehicle to attend performances and conduct work.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in a music program.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
