Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering

A high-performing people leader who acts as a mentor to more junior engineers, collaborates effectively with product management, and leads complex, well-defined projects. This role focuses on fostering a culture of continuous learning, driving team performance, and integrating innovative solutions to enhance the developer experience.

Who you are:
• Proven management experience with a solid track record as a Manager or Senior Manager, preferably with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated experience in developing software in at least 3 different programming languages.
• Extensive experience in maintaining and running software projects/products in production environments.
• While formal education in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is beneficial, we prioritize practical experience and proven leadership skills over specific degrees.
• Proficiency in a couple of languages and/or one language with multiple technology implementations.
• Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses among languages for particular use cases.
• Expertise in designing and developing APIs for broad consumption.
• Strong understanding of how projects and teams interact with other teams.
• Proficiency in testing, monitoring tools, and debugging applications.
• Ability to design easily testable and observable software.
• Solid understanding of software design principles, data structures, and design patterns.
• Experience with AI integration in software development processes is highly desirable.

What you'll do:
• Provide strong leadership and mentorship to a team of 10+ engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and innovation.
• Conduct regular performance reviews, set clear goals, and provide constructive feedback to team members.
• Promote professional growth and development opportunities within the team.
• Oversee the successful execution of complex, well-defined projects, ensuring high-quality deliverables and adherence to project timelines.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to manage dependencies, resolve conflicts, and ensure smooth project delivery.
• Implement effective team management strategies to optimize productivity and maintain high team morale.
• Champion initiatives to enhance developer productivity and enablement through our Backstage.io implementation.
• Advocate for a superior developer experience across the organization.
• Lead efforts to integrate AI capabilities into our internal developer portal to improve functionality and efficiency.
• Build strong relationships with peers, stakeholders, and product management to understand dependencies, share knowledge, and solve common challenges.
• Actively participate in communities of practice to stay updated on best practices and industry trends, contributing to the continuous improvement of the developer experience.
• Partner with tech leads and other leaders to align technical initiatives with business goals and product strategies.
• Identify and address business problems at the project level with innovative solutions.
• Think holistically to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains across organizational boundaries.
• Drive the adoption of new technologies and methodologies to keep the team at the forefront of the industry.
• Embrace a product-led mindset, collaborating effectively with product management to ensure alignment with product goals and customer needs.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $173,000.00 to $242,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
