GENERAL DUTIES

Under general supervision, in office titles such as Production Assistant, Producer, Writer, Editor, Host, Reporter or Interviewer, employees in this class of positions are responsible for the creative design, development and/or execution of editorial material for broadcast. This includes writing, reporting and gathering information; and producing, hosting and/or editing of the material that is to be broadcasted. May also be responsible for developing, managing and coordinating the content and presentation of broadcasts.

There are three assignment levels in this class of positions. This specification describes typical duties of these assignments; related duties are performed as needed.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION

CUNY TV, the City University of New York's television station, has been educating and informing viewers for more than three decades, remaining committed to extending CUNY's academic mission to offer lifelong learning opportunities to all New Yorkers. Established in 1985, CUNY TV reaches 7.3 million broadcast households in the New York metro area from its studios at the CUNY Graduate Center. CUNY TV is broadcast over the air on channel 25.3 and in the five boroughs via cable channels, Spectrum and Optimum on channel 75, RCN on channel 77 and Verizion FiOS on channel 30.

CUNY TV seeks a Senior Producer reporting into the Director of Production for CUNY TV.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
• Creates, manages, and plans all editorial content, original stories, pre- and post-production of an Emmy and Telly award winning prime-time new magazine show that airs in local and national markets, and on social media worldwide.
• Develops and researches story ideas, segments, updates, news topics and graphics. Oversee guest bookings, conduct interviews, write and edit scripts. Research music scores.
• Manages production team of reporters, editors and researchers. Oversee employment, recruitment and interviews from CUNY colleges.
• Publicity - writes press releases and web content for newsletter and website. Produces feature segments, teases and promotional videos. Work with web team on all promotional efforts.
• Field Production - produce remote shoots, interviews, show tosses and scout locations.
• Licensing and clearance - researches and manages all clearance of visual assets, including content license agreements, guest releases, and show information for CUNY TV's archive library.
• Social Media - creates and writes content with photos and videos for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, podcast and website. Monitor social sites with retweets and posts.
• Community Outreach - works closely with reports on AAPI Community events, ranging from speaking panels to conference and workshops; establishes and maintains communication with community, business, and thought leaders in the AAPI community
• Distribution - Manages and distributes show, including local markets, national syndication through PBS Wavelength, non-profit educational institutions, and social media nationwide.
• Train and mentor student interns and production associates on all aspects of broadcast journalism.

Producer, Conversations with Jim Zirin
• Manages all pre and post production of weekly and bi-monthly public affairs program airing on CUNY TV, PBS, WNET, WLIW, Channel 13 Passport, YouTube, Spotify and Apple podcasts.
• Handles guest bookings of high-profile guests and celebrities.
• Manages studio crew and production team.
• Publicizes and promotes web content, newsletter, feature segment and promotional videos.
• Social media - creates and writes content with photos and video for Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
• Works with host and editor on the editorial content of the show.
• Licensing and clearance - researches and manages all clearance of visual assets, including guest releases and show information for CUNY TV's archive and library.

NOTES:
• Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.
• An appointment to this Competitive title/position in the Classified Civil Service Title Series will be made with a Provisional status. Employees in provisional status must pass a competitive civil service examination and be appointed from a civil service list to remain in the title/position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Assignment Level 1: Requires a high school diploma or GED, and 2 years of full-time, satisfactory directly related experience in a television broadcast environment, or

Associate Degree or 60 college credits, and 1 year of experience.
