MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of professional experience in systems analysis, management analysis, program planning, program research, program evaluation, engineering or administrative work. or
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university can substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. or
Professional or nonprofessional experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
Requires possession of a valid driver license.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Position may respond to emergencies, including natural disasters or other type incidents requiring travel, as needed.
JOB DUTIES:
Conducts and coordinates wildfire mitigation education and planning activities as directed and assigned by the immediate supervisor. This will include working with local and regional planning and similar government agencies to increase their awareness of, and incorporation of FIREWISE principles in their planning and review process. Works with local governments on amendments to the Local Comprehensive Plans related to WUI fire protection. Knowledge of government planning processes and development review will be required. Incumbent will need to become proficient in the use of Florida Fire Risk Assessment System to assist government and local groups in its use and products. Implements and promotes FIREWISE Communities USA program. Plans and coordinates the execution of feasibility studies (including determining costs) of burning and other fuels treatments, develop fire prevention plans, and associated methodologies for fuel reduction and fire prevention. The development and refinement of non-fire fuel treatment techniques will be a major focus of the position.
Conducts and coordinates fire prevention activities. This shall include but not be limited to educating the public and governmental entities regarding prescribed burning, knowledge of burning regulations, planning and participation in programs, fairs, exhibits and other events that require the Florida Forest Service's presence. Provides information and coordinates with local media and other fire prevention entities as needed. Informs and educates the public and specific groups regarding wildland fire prevention. Works with local fire services and other agencies to establish a mechanism to decrease man-caused fires. This may include the use of Arson Task Force committees, joint planning, and other programs which lower the fire starts. Assists in developing incident action plans that will reduce the damage potential during wildland/urban interface fires.
Information Officer, Incident Command System. During ongoing incidents this position will act as the Information Officer or support an Incident Management Team Information Officer. This individual will prepare copy for news release services, utilizing computer software, either via electronic mail or hard copy print, of the fire danger, special occurrences, and other items which help in the flow of information to protect the health, welfare, and safety of the affected citizens. Acts as the point of contact for media related wildfire issues, gives interviews and coordinates incident visits for the media and VIPs. Coordinates activities with the State Office Information Coordinator as requested. This position will be familiar with still, digital, and video camera equipment to record ongoing events and promulgate pictures and videos of such quality as to make available for distribution and training.
