Assistant Consultant – UK-German Connection
Pay Band: 6
Salary: Starting £25,520 (+ £3,300 market allowance if based in London)

Role Purpose
Reporting to Senior Consultant – UK-German Connection
The UK-German Connection Assistant Consultant will be responsible for delivery of various aspects of UK-German Connection’s offer and services. The UK-German Connection team are responsible for the day-to-day running of UK-German Connection. This includes:
• assessing grant/bursary/programme applications from schools, colleges, youth organisations and young people
• supporting the development of school, youth and FE partnerships
• supporting mobility and scholarships, such as summer courses and professional development opportunities
• coordinating networks
• running events and seminars
• producing resources and materials
• providing a platform (first port-of-call) for UK-German opportunities
The role involves supporting with a large volume of tasks where we will need candidates to be confident in prioritising and decision making. They will have strong administrative, customer service, communication and IT skills to ensure UK-German Connection is managed in line with British Council, DfE and FCDO obligations. The successful candidate will be innovative and passionate about intercultural projects, customer service and quality assurance and will look to identify and anticipate customer and stakeholder requirements, expectations and needs.
The UK team works in close collaboration with the UK-German Connection school and youth teams based in Germany.
Operational Information
UK-German Connection acts as the bilateral government agency for school and youth links between the two countries. UK-German Connection remains dedicated to supporting partnerships, offering intercultural opportunities, and facilitating connections between schools, youth groups and young people themselves in both countries.
With international exchange currently facing a number of challenges, it’s more important now than ever to keep UK-German connections alive. At UK-German Connection we are committed to ensuring that the opportunities we offer are flexible and accessible, and to tailoring these opportunities to the current needs of schools and colleges, youth groups and young people in this changing landscape of intercultural relations.
UK-German Connection previously operated as an independent bilateral agency and the British Council will now act as the host institution for the UK national agency of UK-German Connection. This will involve a period of integration and careful management to ensure customers and stakeholders receive the same high levels of service which they have come to expect.
Main challenges / opportunities
• Active involvement in the full range of UK-German Connection projects and cross-functional activities
• Working effectively with colleagues across dispersed teams within the UK national agency and the national agencies based in Germany
• Supporting connections against a backdrop of systemic challenges in terms of German language learning and international mobility
• Maintaining an intercultural approach to meet the needs of both UK and German customers and deliver fully bilateral projects
• Maintaining an active awareness of all internal and external opportunities to provide accessible and comprehensive guidance to customers
• Working directly with teachers, youth workers and young people to support to development of UK-German projects
