St. Monica’s Music Director Job Description and Compensation

The St. Monica's Music Director will lead and grow our music ministry by leading and accompanying congregational singing in worship; leading and accompanying choirs, instrumentalists, soloists, etc., during worship; recruiting and training other music personnel, both paid and volunteer.

As a representative of the congregation's commitment to excellence in worship as well as growth and vitality in Christian ministry, it is critical to project hospitality, openness, compassion, and professionalism through both musical gifts and in interpersonal relations.

Specific Responsibilities:
• Conduct choir rehearsals
• Recruit choir members
• Hire section leaders as needed
• Lead congregational singing, choirs, and/or arrange special music for weekly worship
• Consult with Rector to plan music for worship
• Schedule substitute musicians for absences.
• Administer the music budget and the music library
• Oversee the maintenance of the Church's musical instruments
• Coordinate music for the Saturday service and the services in Spanish
• Lead choirs at 10am Sunday service. There is no regular choir during June, July, August, and September. Rehearsals usually begin in late September. This is determined each year
• Accompany (or coordinate musical accompaniment) and lead choirs (as planned with Rector) on Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil
• Provide music at funerals and weddings as arranged with Rector and families. Additional compensation will be paid for these services.
• Connecting with the community about our music ministries
• Additional responsibilities as needed to support the ministries of the church, particularly as they impact the music ministry

Compensation

The salary offered for this position is $50,000-70,000. An additional 5% of salary of pension is provided. Medical insurance is negotiable.

The Music Director may use the church organ and pianos for private lessons when the space is not being used by other programs or ministries.

Vacation and Leave

Four weekends of paid leave and four paid work weekdays (Monday-Friday) when he would not attend rehearsals or church meetings. An additional weekend for continuing education, plus surrounding days is available. Vacation and leave should be scheduled in consultation with the rector, away from significant times in the life of the congregation.
