Job Summary

Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) is the primary provider of IT services to Harvard University. HUIT provides services, including networking (wired and wireless), desktop computing, e-mail and collaboration platforms, and administrative and academic web applications used by faculty, staff, students, and researchers. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is one of the largest HUITs largest clients.

The Faculty of Arts and Sciences is the historic heart of Harvard University. It is the home of Harvard’s undergraduate program (Harvard College, founded in1636) as well as all of Harvard’s Ph.D. programs (the Harvard Kenneth C. Griffin Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, founded in 1872). Position Description

The HUIT Managing Director of IT Strategy and Coordination, Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) serves a critical role in leading the development and ongoing curation of information technology for the FAS and the active coordination across many services provided by Harvard University HUIT. This role is responsible for understanding the breadth of services available from HUIT, including the FAS adoption of those services, roadmaps for those services, and escalation paths when issues arise for members of the FAS community.

The focus of this position is to coordinate technology-related issues across the FAS and support the development of a long-term strategic vision for technology in the FAS. This position partners closely with leaders across FAS and HUIT to achieve these goals.

IT Service Alignment:

• Serve as the FAS representative on the Chief Information Officer (CIO) Council and a member of the HUIT SLT Understand and represent FAS goals with respect to information technology.
• Lead and strengthen coordination and alignment between FAS and HUIT on strategic IT planning and delivery.
• Work with leadership in FAS and HUIT to develop and strengthen relationships.
• During situations when there are significant IT system failures or other IT emergencies that require urgent attention and communication, serve as the primary HUIT Response Leader coordinating communication with relevant FAS leaders.
• Spearhead solution-focused IT service delivery.
• Provide strategic guidance to the FAS and HUIT partners, communicate priorities that enable the delivery of the FAS IT strategy.
• Understand FAS' technology needs and represent strategic goals to HUIT partners, creating a team to deliver solutions.
• In coordination with the FAS CIO and FAS CISO, serve as the primary point of contact for FAS leadership, faculty, and staff.
• Own the IT relationship between FAS and HUIT. Collaborate with HUIT leadership to deliver solutions that meet these expectations.
• Serve as an escalation point for concerns and emerging needs. Drive the development and delivery of solutions that improve IT service delivery.
• Assess and review services and their delivery, looking for opportunities for improvement in all areas of FAS. Evaluate the effectiveness of technical support services.
• Provide strategic guidance to develop and implement effective and scalable processes and procedures.
• Manage stakeholder expectations through clear and consistent communication in collaboration with the FAS communications team.
• Foster a high performance culture, continuous improvement, and collaborative teamwork among a diverse network of IT professionals across multiple service areas and specialties.

IT Strategy Development:

• Meet with the leaders of the FAS divisions and administrative units to discuss long-term planning and emerging issues.
• Collaborate with FAS leadership to align technology service delivery and strategies with goals.
• Represent HUIT in various internal FAS strategic planning and management meetings.
• Drive the development and delivery of the annual FAS submission for the multi-year technology plan (MYTP).

Basic Qualifications
• BA/BS and at least 10 years of relevant strategic planning and engagement experience.
