Position Overview
Be a part of a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing nearly 11,000 young people each year with free, integrated services to help them transition successfully into adulthood. As the Staff Attorney, you will be responsible providing legal representation for young people in immigration matters.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate internal and external referrals for education, healthcare, and other essential services
• Collaborate with foster care agencies to deliver immigration legal services to youth in foster care
• Lead initiatives to advance the legal rights of youth and create opportunities for their engagement
• Support legal education efforts by planning and conducting workshops, developing legal education materials, and engaging with social service and community-based organizations
• Document and report service delivery to ensure compliance with funding requirements
• Supervise interns and volunteers
Qualifications
• J.D. degree with admission to the New York State Bar or willingness to sit for the next scheduled exam
• 1+ year of legal services experience, preferably in Family or Immigration law
• Strong interest in a holistic approach to addressing the needs of young people
• Creative thinker with exceptional communication skills
• Excellent organizational, time management, and record-keeping abilities
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively and engage with young people, management, and program staff
• Professional proficiency in Spanish or French is required
Compensation
• Salary: $67,000-$76,000, commensurate with experience
• 1199 union Medical, Dental & Vision benefits
