Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a high-priority search for a Director of Development for our client, Dolores Huerta Foundation. This dynamic nonprofit organization is committed to strengthening and empowering communities to enact positive change by championing and supporting individuals. This is an exciting direct-hire, hybrid position in Bakersfield, California. Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Development is pivotal in driving forward the organization's mission and ensuring its financial viability. Tasked with spearheading fundraising initiatives, projecting future income, and cultivating strong connections with donors and supporters, they will lead a dedicated team in accomplishing strategic goals. As the Development Director, you will be at the forefront of attracting vital support and raising organizational goal awareness. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with a dedicated team to engage potential supporters and host impactful events. Your mission will be to cultivate a culture of fundraising across the organization, empowering staff to connect with donors and opportunities to secure unrestricted revenue. As a leader within the Development Team, you'll drive the achievement of operational objectives and ensure clear documentation of progress, activities, and results through timely written reports. Responsibilities: Design, implement, and evaluate fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives Manage donations of all sizes, including small gifts, major gifts, and bequests, to foster ongoing support and legacy contributions Oversee budget and fundraising initiatives to guarantee financial stability and efficient resource distributions Champion a culture of fundraising across the organization and coordinate an inclusive all-staff plan that engages staff, board members, and volunteers in fundraising initiatives Drive accountability and motivation by implementing incentives and effective methods to ensure staff and board members meet fundraising goals Discover and nurture potential donors through databases and research tools Provide training and coaching to the team to elevate their fundraising and donor relations effectiveness Stay abreast of fundraising trends, utilizing insights to shape and refine strategies and initiatives Craft messaging and communications for internal and external parties using various platforms and social media channels Facilitate seamless collaboration between departments, spearhead targeted fundraising campaigns, and craft tailored communications for specific audiences Actively participate in meetings, deliver weekly reports detailing plans and accomplishments, and play a key role in special projects Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of experience in a similar nonprofit Development Manager or Director of Development fundraising role (additional experience may be considered instead of degree) A genuine passion and a deep appreciation for the mission of the organization Direct management and individual giving experience are required; sponsorships and corporate gifts familiarity would be helpful Capable of inspiring and motivating team through strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring abilities Demonstrated proficiency in Google Suite applications and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Familiarity with project management tools such as Monday.com and Slack is required Proven proficiency in prospect research, managing donor databases, and utilizing fundraising software Skilled at professionally and effectively interacting with diverse stakeholders, including staff, community leaders, board members, prospects, donors, and volunteers 2+ years of experience in a community engagement Must possess meticulous attention to detail along with excellent organizational, time, and project management skills Embodiment of professionalism, discretion, maturity, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to confidentiality Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; adept in storytelling Steadfast commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is helpful Compensation: This opportunity offers an annual salary of $75,000 to $115,000 DOE, complemented by an enticing benefits package that becomes more rewarding with tenure. Employees enjoy four weeks of PTO after the first year, six weeks after three years, and eight weeks after five years. The organization closes down during the week of Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day. Additional Paid Sick Leave and paid holidays are offered as well.
