About the Position
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Mathematics Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for mathematics and the ability to inspire young minds to engage with and excel in mathematical concepts.
Required Certifications
Current State of Connecticut Teaching Certificate #029 Preferred (or #229)
Essential Qualification and Skills
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, or related field (Master's preferred)
• Valid teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements for teaching middle school mathematics
• Strong knowledge of math curriculum and standards for 6th grade
• Experience in differentiated instruction and small group interventions
• Proficiency in data analysis and using data to inform instruction
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers and staff members
Required Skills:
• Strong understanding of mathematics instruction
• Proficiency in creating engaging and effective lesson plans
• Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse student needs
• Excellent classroom management skills
• Proficiency in using educational technology to enhance instruction
Job Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Analyze multiple student data sets to identify specific prioritized standards for small groups of students in each classroom.
• Develop robust and engaging lesson plans based on identified standards and student needs.
• Provide differentiated Tier I instruction through small group interventions.
• Reteach, reinforce, and pre-teach skills to support student learning.
• Support the implementation of the iReady Classroom Mathematics Program.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to align instruction and interventions.
• Monitor and assess student progress regularly.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance and growth.
• Engage with parents and guardians to communicate student progress, provide resources, and foster a supportive home learning environment.
• Organize and participate in parent-teacher conferences and workshops to discuss student achievements and strategies for improvement.
• Cultivate strong relationships with students to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes trust, respect, and open communication.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills.
Terms of Employment
• Reports to the Interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction for General and Special Education and Building Administrator
• Work hours and compensation commensurate with the working agreement between the Watertown Board of Education and the Watertown Education Association
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:40am-2:50pm
