General Statement of Duties
The Mathematics Department is seeking a full-time Mathematics Learning Center Coordinator manage the day-today functions of the center. Located adjacent to the Mathematics Department in the Sullivan Building on Salem State's North Campus, the MLC consists of a large tutoring space and attached computer lab. The MLC has several functions, including offering drop-in tutoring for most 100- and 200-level math courses, hosting group Supplemental Instructor sessions for mathematics courses, administering placement assessments for precalculus and calculus, and providing foundational mathematics support in the form of online instruction. The coordinator will recruit and schedule tutors, act as a tutor themselves, and schedule assessments and SI-sessions in the MLC. In collaboration with the Salem State Mathematics Department Chair and Curriculum Committee, the MLC Coordinator will fulfill the Mathematics Learning Center mission to support the learning of all students taking mathematics courses at Salem State. The Mathematics Learning Center is continuing to evolve in its function, and this represents an exciting time to help shape the future of the MLC at Salem State.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Recruit, hire, and schedule tutors in the MLC; participate in tutoring courses such as Business Math, Statistics, Precalculus and Calculus.
• Oversee communication with instructors and students regarding foundational math support as appropriate.
• Oversee the implementation of Mathematics Department placement assessments, including scheduling assessments (and make-ups as needed).
• Work with the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) and the Center for Accessibility and Academic Resources (CAAR) in their assessment efforts and to help improve advising for students.
• Plan and oversee SI sessions for MAT 128 (Business Math), MAT 147 (Statistics), MAT 150 (Precalculus) and other courses.
• Provide professional development/training for SIs and MLC Tutors.
• Maintain the physical space of the MLC, Sullivan Building rooms 306A and 307.
• Manage the Math Lab budget with the department chair; manage tutor payroll.
• Collect data around student attendance and usage of the MLC.
• Demonstrates sensitivity to students, faculty, and staff of varying racial, ethnic, religious, gender, cultural, disability, sexual orientation and socioeconomic backgrounds and sensitivity to students with a diversity of learning styles.
• Serves as a role model and mentor for students as appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field.
• Experience teaching or tutoring mathematics, including early mathematics courses such as statistics, quantitative methods for business, precalculus, and calculus, as well as foundational math.
• Experience in and demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring in a multi-racial, multi-ethnic environment with students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master’s Degree in mathematics, mathematics education or a related field.
• Experience supervising small teams as well as managing budgets.
• Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
Working Conditions:
This is an in-person position in Salem, MA with on-campus, in-person responsibilities with the possibility for some remote work.
Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment; occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 5-10 pounds.
