The Research Associate 1 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.
Duties Specific to the Department of Biology):
• Model Development and Simulation: Assist in the development and refinement of mathematical models to simulate phage-bacteria interactions and predict ecological and evolutionary dynamics.
• Bioinformatics Analysis: Perform bioinformatic analyses, including genome assembly, annotation, and comparative analysis, to infer the life traits of phages and bacteria from metagenomic data in various ecosystems.
• Data Integration and Analysis: Integrate experimental data (e.g., sequencing, metagenomics) into computational models to improve the accuracy and predictive power of simulations.
• Programming and Software Use: Employ programming languages (e.g., Python, R, or MATLAB) and bioinformatics tools (e.g., BLAST, Qiime) to analyze datasets, visualize results, and contribute to ongoing research.
• Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of biologists, modelers, and bioinformaticians, while presenting research findings during lab meetings and preparing reports or publications.

• Strong analytical skills.
Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):
• Bachelor’s degree in a basic or health science related area with a strong component in quantitative biology is required.
