Campus Minister for Music and Liturgy

Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Ministry, this position manages Campus Ministry's musical and liturgical programming and pastoral care for Catholic and Christian students and those who inquire about the Catholic faith. Working closely with the Campus Minister for Liturgy and the Coordinator for Liturgy and Worship, this position also manages the operations of LMU's Sacred Heart Chapel. Grounded in a commitment to LMU's Catholic values as animated by the Society of Jesus, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, and the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, this role oversees, develops, and assesses opportunities for liturgical and music ministries for students, staff and faculty, in collaboration with Campus Ministry's current offerings.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Accountabilities
• Plan, prepare and coordinate liturgical music at all Sunday Masses during the academic year (currently celebrated at 10:00 a.m., 8:00 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.), Christmas, Paschal Triduum and Easter liturgies, and university feast days as well as 10:00 a.m. Sunday Masses throughout the summer months in collaboration with the Campus Minister for Liturgy and the liturgy team
• Form a student choir to sing at liturgies, and mentor student ministers as cantors, lectors, psalmists and instrumentalists that enable the assembly's song
• Form, mentor and supervise the student coordinators for 8pm and 9:30pm Mass lectors and music ministers during the academic year
• Continue to develop a diverse and current repertoire of Catholic liturgical music and maintain the music ministry library
• Work with the Associate Director of Campus Ministry to prepare music for and to accompany (under the direction of the Associate Director) at the Feast of St. Ignatius Mass, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, Welcome Mass and Commencement Mass
• Attend liturgy team meetings, campus ministry staff meetings, and collaborate with campus ministers to serve as a pastoral presence when needed
• Attend, direct and coordinate music for liturgies and prayer services at the annual First Year Retreat and Silent Retreat
• Develop a student leadership team to prepare for eXaLT prayer and adoration services and accompany at these services
• Prepare high quality worship aids for liturgies and other events in conversation with the liturgy team
• Be attentive to copyright policies and diligently report all music usage and podcasting to OneLicense and other copyright licensing companies
• Prepare and provide liturgical music for wedding and funeral liturgies. Prepare worship aids for funeral liturgies as needed
• Serve as primary campus ministry liaison for and presence at concerts (by the LMU Music Department or other departments) in Sacred Heart Chapel to ensure proper chapel and sound system maintenance
• Ensure proper maintenance of the chapel music sound system, piano, organ and other chapel musical instruments
• Serve as a resource to student leaders, staff, faculty and presiders for prayer services, retreats, rites and other liturgical celebrations that need musical support or guidance
• Work collaboratively with other university offices and departments in preparing and providing music for special events and prayer services as required
• Represent LMU campus ministry within the university community and at professional organizations or associations, and serve on campus committees as required
• Collaborate with the Campus Minister for Liturgy with sacristan duties at Sunday Masses
• Collaborate with the liturgy team to ensure all needs are met for daily Masses in St. Ignatius Chapel
• Collaborate with the liturgy team in working with the LMU Student Workers to schedule, move and reset the liturgical furnishings in the chapel as needed
• Manage an online presence for LMU music and liturgical ministries, keeping the webpage updated with current information.
• Integrate trauma-sensitive, anti-racist, gender inclusive, religiously diverse wisdom, accompaniment, and programming that engages today's college student into materials, practices, and strategic planning
• Assess and audit offerings through surveys and feedback, evaluating learning outcomes and student feedback to ensure exceptional student experience
• Creatively employ social media and technology to meet student needs and support administrative organization
• Accompany all students pastorally, bearing witness to the movements of God in their lives, listening, challenging, and fostering spiritual growth. Introduce students to the graces of the university charisms, including Ignatian spirituality
• Serve as a faithful steward of institutional mission, modeling maturity, nurturing growth, and participating joyfully in the vast and varied elements of university life
