Job Description :
Faith in New Jersey is seeking a full-time Director of Organizing to grow our grassroots organizing, leadership development, and to advance the grassroots movement across New Jersey.
This is a full-time position, based in Rahway, that requires travel, includes regular evening work and weekend work as needed.
The Director of Organizing is responsible for training, coaching, and managing organizers in the execution of a variety of activities including field operations strategies and tactics;
congregation organizing and development; deep listening and research support; and expanding our coalition. The Director will also design and implement a statewide multi-faceted organizing curriculum to build grassroots organizing across New Jersey.
This is a self- motivated position that requires the ability to work with agility on the front lines of the organization as well as the capacity to develop staff and leaders, and cultivate relationships with a diverse community leader base, clergy, elected officials and other stakeholders.
The Director of Organizing reports to the Executive Director and will partner with the ED and other leadership to create and execute organizing and development plans that support the overall strategic goals of Faith in New Jersey.
A Faith in New Jersey Director of Organizing :
• Centers faith, race, and power in grassroots organizing by supporting and elevating relational organizing approaches developed in collaboration with organizers of color across New Jersey.
• Is a forward thinking, dynamic change agent who is passionate about justice and wants to dismantle the structural forces causing racial, economic and social disparities.
• Is not afraid of a challenge and can effectively problem-solve, multi-task, and make decisions especially under pressure.
• Is comfortable working in a multi-racial, interfaith environment.
• Is committed to their own development and growth as an organizer.
• Demonstrates a disciplined focus on intentional leadership development through 1 : 1 conversation, identifying self-interest, inviting grassroots leaders into roles in the public arena and engaging them in national and local leadership development training.
• Engages grassroots leaders in collective action for social change through identifying issues, training leaders and getting them into direct action with policy-makers and decision- makers at a local, county-wide, state, and federal level
Responsibilities :
• Design and implement multi-year state-wide intersectional campaigns that escalate power to dismantle structural racism and deliver wins for immigrant rights, racial justice, and economic justice.
• Develop the next generation of organizing talent and build independent political power to advance racial, immigrant, and economic justice in New Jersey.
• Lead training, supervision, coaching and development for community organizers.
• Ensure organizers are strategic, build base, train leaders, and build local campaigns.
• Help develop and expand Faith in New Jersey strategic partnerships with other community-based organizations and faith groups.
• Lead efforts to build organizational capacity for voter engagement and data-driven work to build and exercise power.
• Work with the Executive Director to manage grant deliverables and cultivate and steward funder / donor relationships to sustain and grow the work.
• Participate in effective, powerful collaboration with other Faith in Action federations in the region and nationwide on national policy campaigns, trainings and cohort work.
• Learn and teach the Faith in Action organizing model and approach to leadership development and marry it with various organizing models
• Conduct weekly relational meetings with clergy, community leaders and organizational allies
• Develop a clear power analysis of the region and the state legislature
• Bridge the gap between racial, economic and immigrant justice issues and movements
• Intentional movement building with grassroots organizations
