Job Purpose
The BorgWarner Arden campus offers two world class technical centers and a cutting-edge manufacturing facility that designs and produces turbos and fan drives for the automotive industry. The Arden campus offers a multitude of career opportunities and is in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina.
Key Accountabilities (Grade G Machinist)
• Operate machine shop equipment, CNC Lathe, Grinder, and manual at a high level of precision, to produce the quality, and quantity of machining in accordance with Engineering and Lab needs in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. An attention to detail with a goal of zero scrap is required.
• Create, write, or modify machining programs as needed for CNC equipment using Mastercam programming software.
• Utilize Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Access, Word, Excel) to communicate, report, and track information and workflow.
• Query models in Pro-E or Mastercam to gather needed information concerning part geometry.
• Ability to proficiently program multi axis CNC mills.
• Ability to proficiently program multi axis Lathes.
• Advanced Level CNC programming through Mastercam.
• Successfully operate multiple pieces of CNC equipment as well as work on several jobs simultaneously.
• Evaluate designs of parts, for ease of machining in a production environment. Assist in providing training for employees as required.
• Assist in maintaining an effective and efficient machine shop operation by determining the best course of action, from the options available in machining a part. Operate within set parameters provided for cost, completion time, test and sample schedules.
• Design special tooling and fixturing as necessary to produce prototype parts.
• Ability to use Manual Lathes, Bridgeport manual mills, Band saws, Surface grinders, and EDM drill.
• Read, interpret, and evaluate mechanical drawings to determine necessary machining requirements.
• Procure special tooling and fixturing as necessary to produce prototype parts.
• Inspect machined and procured parts as necessary.
• Assist in procurement of tooling, fixturing and material required by the machine shop.
• Utilize precision measuring equipment as required.
• Assist in maintaining an effective and efficient work area.
• Ability to communicate across departmental boundaries both internally & externally.
• Provides feedback to Engineering and Manufacturing departments.
• Is involved in problem solving and communications with others to ensure objectives are met.
• Demonstrate an understanding of engineering requirements of turbochargers and their components.
• Working knowledge of component balancers and ability to balance components required.
• Understand and adhere to current health, safety, and environmental policies.
• Understand and adhere to current quality and control policies.
• Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
• Attendance on the job is essential.
• Proven Quality Track record.
• Work with Production Staff to schedule Welding, Center drilling, and threading of all shaft and wheels.
Qualifications (Grade G Machinist)
• Must have strong technical math skills, especially trigonometry and descriptive geometry, to accurately perform machining operations and to calculate tapers, fourth axis coordinates, etc.
