GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Working in the joint FDA/IFSH Laboratory Proficiency Test team, performs a wide variety of routine lab processes using simple problem solving, and assists in compiling standard laboratory data. Prepares chemical solutions and reagents and assists researchers in both collaborative and industry funded projects. Working in a BSL-2 laboratory, prepares and analyzes food samples containing chemical analytes.
COMMUNICATIONS
Communicates basic data and facts in a clear and concise manner to supervisor in both verbal and written communications. Demonstrates good listening skills. Internal communications are routine and frequent.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Communicates with line supervisor and project leader to determine immediate needs
Describe whether this and deliverables. Performs basic internal communications referencing established position provides customer service timelines and metrics.

Education & Experience
Requires B.S. degree in Chemistry, Food Science or related field.
Knowledge & Skills
Requires strong analytical skills and attention to detail in conducting experiments. Ability to multitask on projects, and work effectively on teams. Basic Word and Excel skills required for data entry.

Physical Environment and Requirements
Works extensively in a laboratory environment where there are strong safety procedures in place. Works with BSL-2 microorganisms and various chemicals following all applicable safety procedures. May lift up to 10 lbs, 10% of the time and performs extensive keyboarding and pipetting up to 25% of the time.
List any certifications or licenses that are either required or helpful in performing the job, designating whether required or preferred.
Good academic credentials are required.

Prepares lab materials and performs chemical analysis and other laboratory testing and analysis as directed by scientists.

Key Responsibility
Follows procedures to operate lab equipment; assists in setting up, adjusting, operating and maintaining equipment and instruments (i.e. HPLC, GC, MS, ICP-MS, etc.) according to procedures. Performs routine maintenance as needed and notifies proper individuals when repair or replacement is anticipated.

Key Responsibility
Performs mathematical calculations of standard formulas independently. Assists in recording test data and follows established safety regulations and procedures. Reviews data generated by procedures to ensure quality work is performed. Identifies possible non-conformances from data.
