Hours: 6-10 hours weekly, some evenings or
weekends required (some hybrid remote options may be available via
zoom for evening or weekend parent meetings and/ or workshops
only). Evenings or weekends are substituted when necessary and are
not an addition to regular work schedule- 10 hours weekly max
Program Description:
Liberty Partnerships Program
The Liberty Partnerships Program is sponsored by the New York State
Education Department and St John's University. It is designed to
provide support services to high school students who are identified
as having the potential to pursue a college education but need
assistance to complete secondary school. The program provides a
broad range of services designed to increase academic skill
development, motivation to succeed, and to foster the personal
development of the students in the program. These year-round
services include: tutoring, counseling, mentoring, developmental
courses, and social and enrichment activities. The program consists
of a Director, 1 Program Coordinator, I part-time Graduate
Assistant, and a team of part-time teachers and college
tutors/mentors. The Math Teacher is responsible for providing
instruction and tutorial services in mathematics during the LPP
Saturday and after-school program located at John Adams High
School.
Responsibilities:
• Provide instruction in the area of mathematics (pre-algebra,
algebra and geometry) and;
• Collaborate with High School Liaisons and/or school personnel
to design and implement academic interventions for students;
• Assist in the coordination of tutorial services; conduct
tutorial training; Supervision of tutorial staff;
• Exhibit great classroom management skills that enable learning
for all students;
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Director;
Qualifications:
• Masters' Degree in Education;
• State Certification or college teaching experience;
• Three years teaching experience at the secondary or collegiate
level;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Knowledge of NYS Learning Standards and Common Core;
• Ability to inspire and motivate youth;
• Deep rooted passion in serving students and helping them
achieve their goals;
• Preference given to educator who currently serves as a
full-time teacher at the target high school.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly
salary range for this position is $25.00 -
$47.00.
