Specific Responsibilities:
This is a Health Education Program Consultant position in the Environmental Public Health (EPH) Program, coordinating countywide Environmental Public Health education program. Work is performed under the supervision of the Environmental Manager - SES. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions.
This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. Has access to Health Management System (HMS) for Daily Activity Record (DAR) entries. Enters and updates information in the Environmental Health Database (EHD), including inspections, permits, customer, and billing information. May view, update and release information as needed.
Develops and coordinates initiatives to promote education in Public Health and Environmental Public Health Programs. Work with communities, schools, universities, governmental agencies, not-for-profit organizations, and society in general to educate regarding environmental hazards, harmful effects of toxic chemicals, wastes, disease vectors, natural disasters, and contaminated air, food, and water.
Prepares periodic reports, educational strategies and materials, projects, and plans associated to Environmental Public Health.
Identifies grant resources to fund the initiatives and strategies. Prepares grant proposals, implements, and monitors approved grants.
Works with the Environmental Public Health program leadership to define objectives and priorities for educational initiatives associated to Public Health and Environmental Public Health. Assists management with the integration of health promotion and public health education programs into long range goals and objectives.
Assists the Pollution Prevention Coordinator with monthly meetings.
Participating in the standard activities; Outreach, Suggestions, and/or Teamwork.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of community-based health promotion planning.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of health education.
• Skill in communication.
• Ability to interpret and apply regulatory materials.
• Ability to plan, develop, and evaluate health education programs.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to environmental public health.
Qualifications:
Licensure/registration/certification requirements (If applicable, list the appropriate Florida Statute or federal regulation cite):
• A Bachelor's degree from a college or university with a major in health education, community or public health, one of the biological sciences, education, public relations, communications, or one of the behavioral sciences. OR
• A Master's degree from a college or university in one of the areas of study described above per Chapter 403 F.S. Standards Certification which includes minimum standards of education, training or experience per Chapter 381 F.S.

• Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
• Valid Driver’s License.
