Salary starting at $52,000 per 9-month contract.

Webster University's Department of Music seeks a dynamic and innovative music educator with a passion for training the next generation of music teachers, to further develop the Webster University undergraduate Music Education program as a model for excellence, both regionally and nationally. Review of applications will begin in September 2024.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*

Teach the equivalent of a minimum of three, 3-credit-hour courses per semester in support of

the undergraduate and graduate curriculum in music education as well as other courses that

serve the university depending on the candidate's expertise and the needs of the department.

Supervise student field experiences and serve as the primary academic advisor for all music education students.

Serve as a liaison between the Department of Music and School of Education as related to tracking student progress of choral and instrumental music education majors through the BMEd degree and responding to ongoing changes initiated by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DSSE) and the Webster School of Education.

Advocate for a superior quality music education for students at the university, Saint Louis metro, and state levels.

Actively recruit music majors through ongoing collaboration with local, state, and regional high school music directors.

Serve as faculty sponsor of the C-NAfME chapter.

Maintain a robust profile as an active scholar, clinician, and/or guest conductor.

Advise and mentor students for careers in music education.

Participate in departmental assessment activities.

Participate in continued development of new curriculum.

Participate in regular departmental reviews of students including entrance, ongoing, and end-of-year program reviews.

Serve the department and the university through committee work and other opportunities, which includes but is not limited to assisting adjuncts; recruitment and retention activities; university-level program assessments; outreach and promotion.

Minimum Qualifications
• Earned doctorate in music education with previous collegiate teaching experience. Candidates who are ABD or candidates with earned doctorate in other areas will be considered.

• Commitment to creating a supportive environment for a diverse student body.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Music Education with a cognate in choral conducting. Instrumental conducting will also be considered.

• Experience in curriculum design and in implementing formal and informal assessment
