Faith in New Jersey is seeking a full-time Regional Community Organizer to grow our organizing and leadership development work in New Jersey across your assigned region while supporting 3 assigned county affiliates and helping to lead our statewide organizing campaigns.
The Regional Community Organizer will engage and develop clergy and grassroots community leaders in organizing to protect and expand human rights, dismantle systemic injustice, and increase economic opportunities.
Faith in NJ is an affiliate of the the largest network of faith-based community organizing federations in the country.
A Faith in New Jersey Organizer :
• Demonstrates a disciplined focus on intentional leadership development through 1 : 1 conversation, identifying self-interest, inviting grassroots leaders into roles in the public arena and engaging them in national and local leadership development training.
• Builds intentional relationships with clergy and religious leaders : identifying interests and challenges in congregations, exploring how Faith in New Jersey membership meets congregational needs and constructing strategies for congregational development in partnership with Faith in New Jersey
• Co-creates and implements long term strategic plans for building power for racial, immigrant, and economic justice.
Responsibilities :
• Learn the Faith in Action organizing model and approach to leadership development
• Conduct 15-20 weekly relational meetings with clergy, community leaders and organizational allies
• Develop a clear power analysis of the region and the state legislature
• Help recruit new clergy, congregations and lay leaders into the organization
• Train congregational leaders to build organizing teams with the power to win policy changes that promote immigrant justice, economic dignity and racial justice reform.
• Help lead our statewide justice organizing and support other local campaigns
• Fundraise, monitor and maintain grant funding requirements
• Bridge the gap between racial, economic and immigrant justice issues and movements
• Develop and conduct training for leaders on effective community organizing : research meetings, team building, mobilization, power analysis, voter engagement, coalition building, structural racism, popular education, storytelling, one-to-ones, etc.
Qualifications :
• Associates or Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
• Strong public speaking, writing and analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal and relational skills and interest in people
• Comfortable working directly with faith and clergy leaders
• Disciplined and able to work effectively, independently and in teams
• Desire to learn and openness to being challenged
• Experience organizing with faith communities, immigrant communities, communities of color, returning citizens, and / or youth.
• Experience with political organizing, union organizing, faith-based organizing, grassroots organizing, designing organizing campaigns, or related work
• Bi-lingual is a plus as our leaders include a diverse immigrant community
Compensation and Benefits :
• A Full-time position, which will include some evening and weekend work.
• Competitive salary of $40,000 - $50,000 depending on experience
• Position includes health, holiday, and vacation benefits.
• Travel reimbursemen for work related provided
