Position Overview:
The Senior Data Engineer will play a crucial role within the Operations and Technology Services team at Harris County Public Health. Reporting directly to the DevOps Manager, this role will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines, infrastructure, and tools to support data integration, transformation, and analysis. The Senior Data Engineer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient data management practices that enable informed decision-making and advance the organization's public health goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design, implement, and maintain scalable and efficient data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming data from various sources. Implement automation scripts and workflows to streamline data processing, deployment, and monitoring tasks. Implement and maintain data security best practices to safeguard sensitive information to comply with relevant data privacy regulations.
• Optimize data structures and schema designs to improve query performance and data retrieval. Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements to ensure optimal data processing and storage.
• Collaborate with other teams including data scientists, analysts, software engineers, and stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
• Communicate technical concepts and findings to non-technical audiences, ensuring clear understanding of data processes and outcomes. Maintain clear and thorough documentation of data pipelines, processes, and infrastructure configurations.
• Other duties as assigned including special tasks involved in responding to an emergency event.

Education:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology (IT), computer engineering or a closely related field.

Experience:
• Five (5) years of Data warehouse experience.
• Two (2) years of Data warehouse implementations from start to finish.

Computer Skills:
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite software, including 365 programs
• Proficient in Agile project methodology (Scrum, Agile, etc.)
• Proficient in software development tools (DevOPS, Jira, etc.)
• Proficient in ETL tools (SSIS, Azure data factory)
• Proficient in database systems (MSSQL, CosmosDB)
• Proficient in designing solutions on cloud platforms (Azure)
• Proficient in data warehouse solutions (Snowflake)
• Proficient in scripting languages (Python, NodeJS)
