What we know:
• Data is currently stored on PowerBI, Azure based system and leveraging complex SQL
• SQL is the number 1 skill needed for this role
• Must be able to convey ideas and information in addition to perform at strong level
• Biggest issue right now is the transformational aspect
• They may need to compress 3 rows into 1
• This is why they do the heavy lifting in SQL code - PowerBI cannot do this
• Examples
• Advanced window functions
• Aggregate rows
What They Will Be Doing
• Extracting client data from one system built using PowerBI and moving to a system that is primarily SSRS but a little fancier
• Will be doing run of the mill extracts
• Vast majority will be large grids and columns and some dashboards
• Heavy lifting will be done in SQL – so must be an expert in SQL
• Aggregate functions –data wrangling
• Candidate might not be a PowerBI or SSRS Guru - if you have done reporting you can adapt
• SSRS features are similar to PowerBI
Responsibilities
• Design and implement data models to support reporting and analytics requirements.
• Utilize SQL to integrate, transform, and optimize data from various sources for reporting purposes.
• Develop visually appealing and insightful reports and dashboards using Microsoft BI tools like Power BI.
• Apply in-depth knowledge of Microsoft's BI and data stack, including Power BI, SSRS, and SSIS.
• Implement data governance practices to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security within reports.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, data analysts, and team members to understand reporting requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
• Adhere to data policies, standards, and best practices for BI development.
Qualifications
• Extensive experience writing advanced to extremely complex SQL statements with a deep understanding of SQL code.
• Strong understanding of Business Intelligence patterns, data modeling approaches, and OLAP platforms.
• Expert-level proficiency with analytics development using common BI tools such as Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, etc.
• Comfortable leading analytics efforts independently or as part of a project team.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas effectively and contribute to thought leadership in analytics.
• Passion for analytics/BI and the ability to articulate its strategic business value.
• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and analytics techniques.
• Highly motivated, accountable, and able to take ownership of projects.
• Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Experience with Validated Systems is strongly preferred.
