Senior Clinical Chemistry Scientist

Incumbents in one of these classifications, where a Master's Degree is required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 2% of their monthly base pay. Those where a Doctoral Degree is a required to meet the minimum qualifications, shall receive an educational pay differential equivalent to 3% of their monthly base pay. Individuals with both a Master's and Doctoral Degree will be given the best benefit in relation to salary shall only be eligible for only one amount.

This position supports the California Department of Public Health's (CDPH) mission and strategic plan as a mature clinical scientist to ensure the quality of performance and outcomes of results from our high complexity Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) certified genetic screening laboratories with a focus upon mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and molecular biology assays.

The incumbent works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor II (Chemical Sciences), Chief of the Mass Spectrometry and Molecular Section. The Research Scientist (RS) III (Chemical Sciences) will plan, organize, and direct scientific research studies of a highly developed scientific scope and complexity; develop assays and quality assurance programs for tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) and molecular biology testing and assist in designing of methods for the collection of data needed in management of contract laboratory operations. The incumbent will serve as scientific advisor or consultant to other lower-level scientists on specific laboratory procedures to carry out assignments. The RS III will facislitate the improvement and maintenance of laboratory quality control and quality assurance program.

This position requires the possession of- at the time of appointment -a valid California Clinical Chemist license, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) license, or a Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist license.
