Your Opportunity
Stantec’s environmental services group is seeking a mid-level or senior-level Quality Assurance (QA) Environmental Scientist to support our environmental grant support efforts within the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region. The primary duty of this role is to support our nationwide team providing guidance and review support for incoming project and data quality documentation for a wide range of water quality protection and habitat restoration grant projects.
As a member of our team, you will conduct analyses in support of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements for Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) compliance and other applicable regulations. The candidate must demonstrate experience in analysis and review of technical writing. You must be able to communicate to a diverse array of stakeholders with varied technical expertise, demonstrate critical thinking skills, and be comfortable with in-depth document review/analysis. The selected candidate will provide support on a variety of projects and subject matters Responsibilities will include methodology review, technical review and guidance, and outreach. This position involves working as a part of a team of people supporting projects across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region. The position is affiliated with our Laurel, MD office. Remote work would be considered for the right candidate.
As a Quality Assurance Environmental Scientist, you will work in a highly dynamic team environment with other technical specialists and collaborate with scientists, planners, and engineers. This position is primarily office work with no travel requirements; however, there may be opportunities for fieldwork or travel on occasion.
Your Key Responsibilities
• Act as a source for independent QA review of environmental project QAPPs with strict adherence to the EPA requirements for quality management to ensure quality expectations have been achieved.
• Composing, reviewing, and critiquing technical reports presenting results from field investigations and developing appropriate applications/consultations necessary for various regulatory approvals.
• Assisting project manager with QA/QC tasks, project compliance tracking, agency consultations.
• Background research and data reviews.
• Assist with and prepare portions of written reports, tables, spreadsheets, databases, and presentations for grantees as well as client and regulatory agency review.
• Record, enter, organize, manage, and review project information.
• Communicating and coordinating with clients, grantees, project managers, field coordinators, and project staff.
• Performing additional project support duties as needed.
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
• Experience with or supporting federal and/or state agencies, NGOs and grant projects.
• Experience creating methodologies, templates, guidelines, checklists, and other artifacts to establish repeatable processes for Quality Assurance
• Background in data review or analysis; working with laboratory data packages and understanding project and data quality aspects.
• An understanding of an EPA Data Quality Objective (DQO) and/or data quality processes.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex and highly technical information to a wide variety of project stakeholders.
• A general understanding or experience conducting or directing wetland and waterbody identification and delineation, wildlife habitat assessments, vegetation monitoring, invasive species surveys, and other ecological field surveys.
• The ability to solve problems using critical thinking and to complete tasks with consideration to their own and the team's safety.
• Capable of writing reports at the professional level and making oral presentations.
• Ability to lead agency and client coordination.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Experienced at working well in a diverse, multi-disciplinary team atmosphere and independently as required.

Education and Experience
• The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental studies, environmental engineering, planning, geography, natural resources, or related field with demonstrated experience with biological surveys.
