Trust In Food™, Farm Journal’s climate-smart ag division, is looking for a Markets and Metrics Specialist to work on the innovative Connected Ag Climate-Smart Commodities Pilot Project. Trust In Food has been awarded and is implementing a $40M Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities grant program, enrolling producers in at least 15 states and focusing on regenerative agricultural practices related to row crop, specialty crop, and livestock. The Markets and Metrics Specialist role will be responsible for supporting our goals to connect producers with end markets that value their climate-smart commodities and the production practices that underpin them. The primary focus of the Connected Ag project is to support producers in gathering and seeing value in their production data to access climate-smart markets.
This role is best suited for a sustainable ag reporting guru who has experience with climate-smart and regenerative agriculture metrics and incentive program requirements, as well as end-markets for value add commodities.
This is a 3 year grant-funded position with an estimated end date of September 2027.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
CLIMATE-SMART PRODUCTION METRICS
• Inventory and synthesize technical and reporting requirements from voluntary climate-smart commodities and supply chain market programs, including direct marketing of value-add commodities, climate-smart insets, offsets, and climate-smart marketing claims requirements.
• Create end market-facing data and assurance reporting strategy in compliance with industry standards for the Connected Ag project, working with grant technical staff to ensure required data is being gathered and with partner data coaches to ensure required data is available and understandable to participating producers.
• Work with Farm Journal data team and project partners to identify and integrate external sources of data and assurance to meet market facing reporting requirements, with the goal of streamlining the process for producers to the highest degree possible.
• Connect and analyze Human Dimensions of Change data from Farm Journal (leading indicators) to on-the-ground production data in support of our overall theory of change.
• Integrate and analyze project data in order to create compelling end market facing materials and storytelling.
MARKET CONNECTION
• Work with project partners to identify and conduct outreach to end market buyers for commodities from the Connected Ag project.
• Track available commodities inventory from producers enrolled in the grant.
• Work with producers and grant staff in order to collect relevant data and assurance information, along with stories, photos and other assets to supporting marketing efforts.
• Identify opportunities and challenges to guide strategy between domestic and export markets
• Prepare relevant reports as needed.
SKILLS + ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED
• Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
• Expertise in sustainable agriculture production
• 3+ years of direct experience working with sustainable agriculture metrics and measurement frameworks (SBTI, FieldPrint, SAI Platform), ESG reporting frameworks (GRI, SASB, etc) plus ideally working knowledge of voluntary GHG inset/offset verification programs (Gold Standard, Vera)
• Demonstrated experience, willingness, and enthusiasm to build from the ground up and do what is needed.
• Excellent analytical skills, ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume data entry environment, with high attention to detail.
• A positive, can-do attitude, adaptable and flexible.
