Job Title: Chemist
Job Description
We seek a dedicated Chemist to join our team for the 2nd shift, Monday-Thursday from 5pm-3:30am. The role involves general wet chemistry lab testing, including pipetting, viscosity, pH, and boiling point measurements. You will receive training on various instruments such as automatic pipetting machines, Gas Chromatography, and IR spectrometers. The overnight team's work is split between 60% testing and 40% documentation. Your specific tasks may vary nightly, encompassing all testing, all documentation, or a combination of both. Key responsibilities include routine testing and approval of chemicals and blends, inspecting raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods, and documenting test results and chemical non-conformances. The role also involves maintaining quality records, verifying materials against specifications, and generating certificates of analysis. Occasionally, you may inspect USP containers and tankers, gauge and sample incoming ethanol shipments, and perform quality tasks during peak periods.
Hard Skills
• Chemistry Degree, Bio, or other related science degree
• Wet chemistry skills from school or on the job
• Proficiency in chemistry testing
• Ability to learn and follow SOPs
Soft Skills
• Ability to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision
• Time management and agenda setting
• Collaboration and communication with team members and supervisors
Job Type
This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 6 Month(s).
Work Environment
Chemical manufacturer with a modern, up-to-date lab and production facility. The environment is temperature controlled. The 2nd shift team consists of 2 supervisors, 1 other Chemist for the full shift, and 1-2 additional members until 10:30pm. You will train on the 1st shift for 2-3 weeks. The starting pay is $21.75/hour, increasing to $22/hour after 3 months and $23/hour after a 6-month temp period, with raises based on performance.
