Opportunity And Qualifications

We are excited to invite a Tax Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) Services Group. This position is available in any of our Northeast Ohio offices, including Cleveland, Akron, or Wooster, with options for hybrid or remote work arrangements.

As a Tax Manager, you will have the chance to leverage cutting-edge software technology while developing and implementing strategies for our clients. You will manage day-to-day tax consulting and compliance services, with a focus on state and local direct tax planning.

Primary Responsibilities
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients through various consulting and compliance engagements.
• Provide expert advice on partnership and corporate state/local tax returns, addressing multistate tax issues.
• Collaborate with an in-house tax preparation team to review estimated payments, withholding, composite tax calculations, and investor packages.
• Oversee engagement workflows, including talent management and invoicing.
• Serve as a trusted advisor, focusing on audit representation, nexus planning, and voluntary disclosures.
• Conduct research and analysis on state tax legislation and support compliance and investor reporting processes.
• Contribute to the proposal process for new and existing clients.
• Mentor and support the development of engagement team members.

Skills, Knowledge, And Expertise

To be a successful candidate, you should have:
• A Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field; a Master's degree in taxation is a plus.
• CPA or relevant certification is preferred but not required.
• 3-5 years of experience in state income and franchise tax, federal tax, pass-through, tax research, and corporate tax returns.
• Experience in tax planning is advantageous.
• Strong research, writing, presentation, and communication skills.
• Previous experience working in a CPA firm is preferred.
• Management or supervisory experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and a basic understanding of operating systems.
