Job Title: Pharmacy Specialist

Overview: As a Pharmacy Specialist, you will serve as a highly skilled and knowledgeable professional in the field of pharmacy, specializing in a specific area of pharmaceutical practice. Responsibilities:
• Specialized Pharmacy Services: Provide specialized pharmacy services in a designated area of practice, such as medication therapy management, infectious diseases, oncology, critical care, or ambulatory care, depending on the specific needs of the healthcare organization.
• Medication Therapy Management: Conduct comprehensive medication reviews, assess medication regimens for safety and efficacy, and optimize drug therapy to achieve therapeutic goals and minimize adverse effects.
• Clinical Consultation: Serve as a resource for healthcare providers, offering expert guidance on medication selection, dosing, administration, and monitoring, based on evidence-based guidelines and best practices.
• Drug Information: Provide accurate and timely drug information to healthcare professionals, patients, and caregivers, including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, drug interactions, and therapeutic alternatives.
• Quality Assurance: Participate in quality assurance activities, such as medication use evaluations, medication safety audits, and adverse drug event reporting, to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Formulary Management: Assist in formulary management processes, evaluating new medications for inclusion on the formulary, assessing therapeutic interchange opportunities, and promoting cost-effective medication use.
• Clinical Documentation: Document clinical interventions, patient consultations, and medication-related activities accurately and comprehensively in the electronic health record (EHR) system or pharmacy information system.
• Education and Training: Provide education and training to pharmacy staff, healthcare professionals, and patients on topics related to specialized pharmacy practice, medication safety, and medication management.
• Research and Scholarship: Participate in pharmacy research initiatives, clinical trials, and scholarly activities to advance the field of pharmacy practice and contribute to evidence-based practice guidelines.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of developments in pharmacy practice, regulatory requirements, and emerging trends in healthcare delivery, and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance pharmacy services and patient care.

Requirements:
• Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy program.
• Specialized Training: Completion of postgraduate residency training or fellowship in the designated area of pharmacy specialization, or equivalent experience and expertise in the field.
• Licensure: Current licensure as a pharmacist in good standing, with eligibility for licensure in the applicable jurisdiction.
• Clinical Skills: Proficiency in specialized pharmacy practice, including advanced pharmacotherapy knowledge, clinical assessment, and medication management skills.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex clinical information effectively to diverse audiences.
• Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, consulting with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient care.
• Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to analyze clinical data, interpret research findings, and develop evidence-based recommendations.
• Technology Proficiency: Familiarity with pharmacy information systems, electronic health records (EHR), and medication management software applications relevant to the specialized area of pharmacy practice.
• Leadership: Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to lead quality improvement initiatives, mentor pharmacy staff, and contribute to departmental or organizational goals.
