Reading and Writing Consultant

Job Function

Work with students to improve reading and writing abilities and promote student success

Job Responsibilities
• Work one-on-one and in groups with students across the curriculum to develop and improve writing strategies, critical thinking, organization, and sentence-level coherence and readability
• Work one-on-one and in groups with students across the curriculum to develop and enhance strategies for general and academic reading, including pre-reading, thought mapping, critical thinking, comprehension, and engaged questioning
• Assists students in identifying and prioritizing next steps for reading and writing assignments and setting goals for class success
• Keep daily records, including attendance, session descriptions, and student progress using Penji
• Develop schedules to provide access to this support
• Help students develop a support network for their coursework and college success
• Make classroom visits to promote services and support classroom writing
• Meets with Reading and Writing Studio coordinators and director to discuss issues that arise from sessions
• Alerts coordinators using early intervention protocols for struggling students when warranted
• Informs students about adaptive technology when appropriate and helps them organize connection to services

Education

Must have a bachelor”s degree or higher in English, Communication, Education, Linguistics, or Language Arts.

Qualifications

Teaching experience and presenting in small group format preferred. TESOL certification preferred.
