Excellent research and innovation are at the centre of the work of the HHI - Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications. In the field of photodetectors, HHI has a leading position worldwide. The dynamics of this field of technology opens up the scope for exciting scientific projects with a clear application perspective. Photodetectors developed at HHI can be found at the end of optical fibers, in scientific detectors (e.g. LIGO, ALMA), in satellites for communication with laser beams and recently also in quantum communication and sensor applications. The development of photodetectors combines photonics, radio frequency engineering and semiconductor physics, three exciting and dynamic areas of applied research. What you will do
• Development of a PDK for thin film lithium niobate PICs
• ASIC design of TIAs for high-speed data transmission and sensor applications
• ASIC design of quenching circuits for SPADs
• Characterization of the manufactured chips
• Evaluation of the chips in system experiments
• Collaboration in interesting, international industrial projects
The scientific work offers the possibility of a doctorate.
