About the Position
Gabel is looking for an Energy Market Analyst Associate to join the Wholesale Power Markets & Services Team to support our clients and projects through quantitative analysis and data management. The Wholesale Power Markets & Services Team undertakes analysis of energy markets, projects, policy and regulation throughout the United States, and serves as the primary point of contact for our clients transacting in the wholesale power markets space.
The ideal candidate will have an energy industry background foundation, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with the Team, communicate information effectively and efficiently to the Team and external clients, support the Team with persistent research and data analysis to ensure client’s expectations are surpassed. Additionally, this person will have the opportunity to be a thought leader through preparation of analysis and reports that drive both policies and energy projects forward.
Candidates will have the option to work remotely with periodic travel to attend in-person meetings when necessary. Gabel Associates’ services are provided in the United States. Salary is competitive and includes a strong benefits package.

Responsibilities:
• Organize and maintain multiple data sets, updating as needed to maintain accuracy.
• Quantify the potential impact of policy changes on power markets, ratepayers, and asset valuations.
• Perform economic and statistical analyses of power market data, financial reports, and rate filings.
• Present analysis results and reports to internal and external stakeholders in a simple and effective manner.
• Follow industry developments and identify trends, opportunities, and risks relevant to stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Simplify and translate complex topics into clear, persuasive terms, highlighting critical issues for diverse audiences through written reports and oral presentations.
• Analytical Skills: provide strong logical insights supported with strong pattern-recognition and critical reasoning.
• Modeling or Programming: excellence in Excel and/or programming languages (e.g., Python (pandas), R, etc.) with ability to create and manipulate large datasets, perform statistical analysis, and visualize results.
• Industry Expertise: understanding of the energy industry and its regulations, including energy market structures, pricing mechanisms, key stakeholders, and trends.
• Critical Reasoning: able to break down complex problems into smaller components; identify root causes, biases, inconsistencies, and implications; and evaluate arguments and evidence from multiple perspectives.
• Communication Skills: promotes open and proactive communication, fostering an environment that encourages open discussions among team members and embraces constructive feedback and diverse perspectives.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of wholesale power markets, regional transmission organizations terminology and general framework.
• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python (pandas), R), statistical analysis packages, and data visualization tools.
