Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) and Lecturer in Counselor Education

Butler University

The College of Education (COE) at Butler University invites
applications for two faculty positions: Assistant Professor
(Tenure-Track) of Counselor Education and Lecturer in
Counselor Education, both with an expected start date of August
2025.

Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) of Counselor
Education:

The successful candidate will teach online courses in the CACREP
core and Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization on a
9-month contract with annual summer teaching expectations for
additional compensation. We are specifically seeking a highly
motivated colleague with expertise in and a demonstrated commitment
to culturally responsive counseling with BIPOC communities, though
experience with other intersectional and underrepresented
identities is also highly valued. Specific responsibilities are
listed below, but our new colleague would enhance our rapidly
growing online degree programs through collaboration as a
scholar-educator who both trains excellent counselors and engages
with colleagues, clients, families, and communities to transform
existing approaches to teaching, counseling, and scholarship. We
are particularly interested in applicants from identity groups
currently underrepresented in the counseling profession.

Responsibilities
• Teach 9 credit hours of online courses during fall and spring
semesters in addition to variable summer teaching responsibilities
annually for additional compensation;
• Collaborate with colleagues on the development, review, and
revision of online counseling courses;
• Advise students regarding academic and fieldwork
requirements;
• Supervise students during clinical fieldwork;
• Collaborate with colleagues and community partners to transform
existing teaching, counseling, and scholarship practices to better
serve minoritized clients, families, and communities;
• Produce scholarship aligned with COE expectations for positive
progress toward tenure;
• Engage in grant-funded work with community and school
partners;
• Provide service to the program, College, University, and
professional community

This is a tenure track position. An earned doctorate in Counselor
Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited institution is
required. Additionally, significant coursework and/or commensurate
professional experience in culturally responsive mental health
counseling are required by contract start date.

Preferred qualifications

While not everyone will possess all preferred qualifications, the
ideal candidate will bring many of the following:
• Evidence of sustained commitment and action towards diversity,
equity, and inclusion in educational settings;
• Demonstrated commitment to interrupting and eliminating
inequitable outcomes, removing barriers, and creating inclusive
conditions for individuals and communities regardless of any
predictive identities;
• Experience working with students and colleagues from a variety
of cultural and linguistic backgrounds;
• Proficiency in another language in addition to English;
• Knowledge and experience to support learners from a variety of
backgrounds with strong, student-centered, inclusive instructional
methods;
• Proven success or potential for success in scholarship
commensurate with the expectations within a "teacher-scholar"
model;
• Alignment with the
COE Shared Commitments and the mission of
Butler University ;
• Experience and expertise with online, asynchronous teaching and
learning that fosters strong student-instructor connections and
student engagement.

This is an on-campus position located at Butler University
in Indianapolis, Indiana.

To apply, candidates must submit:
• A letter of application outlining qualifications and interest
in the position
• Inclusive and evidence-based pedagogy is expected at Butler
University. Please indicate your previous experience with and
commitment to these practices in your cover letter.
• Curriculum vitae
• Names, contact information, and roles of three professional
references who can speak to the candidate’s excellence as an
educator and counselor

Screening of applicants will begin October 1, 2024, and continue
until the position is filled. For questions related to this
position, please contact Alexis Methner at amethner@butler.edu . For more
